Description: Yoshi's has served Japan's best traditional dishes to Bay Area patrons since 1972. The menu highlights artfully arranged sushi, fresh grilled seafood, classic Japanese dishes, and vegetarian fare. Patrons can kick off their shoes in the traditional Japanese tatami seating or dine at tables. Expert sushi chefs create sushi and sashimi to order either in the restaurant or in the jazz house. Start the evening in the cocktail lounge before dinner or have a nightcap after taking in a show in the jazz house.

“Jazz, Sushi - Killer Combo!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2012

Yoshi's is an Oakland institution, down on Jack London Square. Dinner is top notch, and there are ample choices for non-sushi eaters. Service has been wonderful at every visit.

One thing about the restaurant that is either a charming plus or a downer, depending on your attitude: the AMTRAK trains run right down the middle of the street outside Yoshi's. If you like trains, it's fun. If you are annoyed by them, maybe go elsewhere!

After dinner, there are evening shows in Yoshi's comfortable venue. Usually it's jazz, occasionally something else. The quality is always high, so it's worth taking a chance on something new.

This is a favorite place for us to go for a special evening out: sushi, some good wine or saki, a nice show, with easy parking nearby and friendly service. It's an easy place to love.

“How we love this place...!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2012

Parallel to a very active passenger and freight train route lies Yoshi's restaurant and Jazz Club. The atmosphere, service, menu, drinks, and dessert are all top notch if you like Japanese food, and even if you don't (like my fiance) there are many other items from which to choose. We go there at least once a year to take in world-class jazz concerts and top notch food. It is truly a pleasure and I highly recommend reservations and giving yourself enough time to sit and eat leisurely while waiting for the concert to begin.

Guests can choose to sit at regular tables, or Japanese style, in a depressed seating arrangement with no shoes. Every morsel I've had here has been a pleasure. We were delighted to watch the Amtrak trains pass by every 15 minutes or so.

Be prepared to pay a hefty tab with three courses and drinks, but it's worth it. Out-of-towners can stay at the Harbour Front Hotel across the road and walk to and from the venue without having to worry about hailing a cab, parking or traffic...aside from the train traffic, that is!

Truly delightful.

“Great atmosphere and really good Japanese food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2012

We arrived at 4:15 pm for dinner in preparation to see a Sunday 6pm show. We were the first seated and I don't think they were quite ready for us. But, as soon as they were, waiters were attentive and did not rush us. The sushi and sushimi were well crafted and quite good.

“Best Jazz in the world”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2011

I have frequented Yoshi's for over 20 years. Still the best. The line-up features the greatest entertainers that exist in the jazz world, the venue is state-of-the-art, roomy (unlike Blue Note in NYC), and food is mouth watering.
