Description: The Art of Mexican Cooking This humble yet colossal affirmation conveys not only the need but the style of service which Cocina Poblana brings to the Bay Area. We feel that there is a need for refined Mexican cuisine focusing on traditional colonial flavors and fusing them with modern techniques and trends. Poblana refers to the region of Puebla Mexico the heart and soul of fine Mexican cuisine. Culinary traditions have been passed down for centuries from generation to generation yet the essence our ancestors remain very much alive. Poblana also refers to; pertaining to the pueblo (township) many of our dishes display the nature of home cooked meals and how you would generally find them in rural Mexico. The true nature of our cuisine however is a perfect marriage between Puebla and Jalisco Mexico. Offering the refined delicate flavors of Puebla, along side of the robust and rustic style of Jalisco.

“Excellent food and service, not your typical mexican cuisine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2011

I am not normally a fan of mexican food, but the selections on the menu here are unusual and the execution is perfect for my taste. The staff are top notch from the reception to the servers to the kitchen. I have always gone with a larger group and the staff have executed flawlessly. I always look forward to having a meal here.

“Go to Cocina Poblana Emeryville instead!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2011

My friend's dinner was OK. I had chicken with their pumpkin seed mole. The chicken was overcooked to the point that it was hard. The mole was bland. I'm a pumpkin seed fan, and this didn't even have much pumpkin seed flavor. I talked to the waiter about ti, hoping he would make it easy to return it to the cook. Nope--he kinds shrugged it off. There didn't seem to be anybody of capability and competence around. And since it was nearly closing time, I opted to just get out and cut my losses. Why waste time AND money?
Their chips and salsa are tasty!

“Some of the best Mexican food I have had...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2010 via mobile

Some of the best Mexican food I have had in a long time. Perfect balance of flavors and spiciness in the dishes. The flavors and spices used in the food are right on target. So good, I am craving more already.

“Just Good, Not Great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2010

Ate dinner early on a Saturday evening. Chips and salsa decent, not great. Guacamole was pretty good, better than average. Had a shrimp dish, sorta' like fajitas, with a decent reduction glaze. However, only given 2 tortillas, could have used another one. Maybe 2 more. Tasty enough, but not something I would write home about. Mashed potatoes were actually pretty good, a little dense, but tasty.
All in all, a decent place, but not more. Not for the price.

“Best value in Jack London square”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2009

Fresh take on South of the Border cuisine for very reasonable price and nice extras. Chips were fresh and salsas unique, not run of the mill. The chicken lime soup was fresh batch, light and subtly seasoned. Sesame crusted ahi tuna was excellent and very inexpensive. Try Chile Poblana for a unique dish with fruit and spice, suggesting Caribbean flavors. Choclate flan finished with fanfare. Draft choices, again inexpensive and good choices. For the adventurous, an exhaustive list of Tequilas from the Teguila bar. Overall an unexpected surprise in a tourist spot. Very friendly helpful staff as well.
