“Gorgeous building!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2013

I visited this theater for the first time last night for a Radio Lab live show. What a magnificent building. If you enjoy Art Deco and are in Oakland, it is definitely worth a stop even just to see the halls, but of course, attending a venue and seeing the theater itself is worth as much as what you pay to see a performance.

If you are seating orchestra, go upstairs to the third floor balcony to take a close look at the beautiful ceiling and wall carvings.

“Grand view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2013

The theater is gorgeous and convenient. This spot is one block from BART. I usually get into the area early and have dinner nearby. Depending upon the day and time of your event there can be plenty of free parking on the street. I have attended many types of events here (music, movies, speakers) and while the seating is comfortable, the acoustics is always a problem for musical performances. Otherwise, it is a small theater without a bad seat. I sat in the top row for an Alanis Morisette acoustic performance, and it wasn't bad.

“Beautiful Beaux Artes Venue in Oakland”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

Both the Paramount and its sister, the Fox Theatre Oakland are turn of the Century beauties which have been refurbished and retro-fitted (it is earthquake country after all). Truly beautiful, both have been lovingly restored and updated. Paramount is larger but the Fox has a newer, better sound system and an Elevator (with an operator- no white gloves though!).
The Oakland East Bay Symphony (Maestro Michael Morgan) play monthly at the Paramount. I saw Joe Satriani last night at the Fox- both venues draw big crowds and a great variety of musical events.

“Vintage Films in Vintage Theater”

What's not to like? Vertigo on the big screen and amazing art deco atmosphere. You can even get a drink. No overpriced popcorn & soda.
