The Jack London Cinema looks quite pleasant from the outside, and in the lobby. It's fairly large and spacious for a downtown cinema, and has a pretty good selection of films (9 showing when we went) - although all mainstream. There was no queue for our late showing of "A Beautiful Mind". The auditorium that we sat in was reasonably sized and (at 10:20pm) almost deserted, so we got excellent seats in the center of the theater with almost no-one around us. At first glance the seating is excellent, with reclining airline style chairs. However the floor was sticky to our feet (eww) and there was garbage from the previous showing scattered on the ground (eww, again). The seats, although initially spacious & comfortable, proved really quite uncomfortably butt numbing after the 2 1/4 hour movie, plus lengthy adverts and trailers. The first few minutes of the film were noticeably scratched and damaged, which I presume is the cinema playing a damaged reel rather than an artistic effect of the film. I intend to seek out a better movie going experience in the bay area. No complaints about the sound system.
