Jack London used to be a fun and busy place to visit. There were lots of small stores with a variety of goods for sale, but they have mostly gone now. There also used to be lots of places to eat... same story. The big attraction was the Barnes and Noble, and the square that always seemed to be hosting live music. It was a favorite hang-out for my friend and I. Now we only visit when there is a specific reason....mostly a convenient meeting place and a special lunch.

The place is really nice to while the time away. There are so many things to do. Sometimes, flea markets abound in the square and there will be costumed entertainers plusd food and drink booths to keep you occupied.

Can't go wrong for eating, shopping, galleries, quiet spot to read a book, get some sun, people watch. Or you could catch an Amtrak train. See the writer's Jack Londons cabin and statue. Catch a ferry. Well worth the trip if your an out of towner.

You can pick up a ferry here & buzz over to Fisherman's Wharf. Only $8.50 each way. Other than restaurants and the ferry, not much there.
