Be aware of some issues if you plan a stay at Sierra Sky Ranch.
First the Positive Notes: the rooms are clean, the beds are good, the bathrooms large, albeit dated, with plenty of hot water. Decor is hotel rustic, but the rooms are too full of furniture to be really comfortable. There is AC available which was important for us considering the poor air quality during our stay. It is about a 30 min to drive to Wawona in Yosemite.
The Negatives Notes: We stayed mid week and the restaurant and bar were closed, which we knew about in advance. You have to drive down the main road for breakfast. Our in-room coffee maker didn't work properly.
SSR hosts BBQ parties and the entire front lawn was covered with banquet tables and chairs set up for for that upcoming weekend event. There was a large BBQ grill, volleyball net, and other picnic items spread across the front lawn. Those BBQ parties are advertised as public with music. Be aware that your desire for quiet may conflict with a large BBQ party right outside your room door on the weekend. The number of seats in the restaurant plus all those picnic tables also means parking might be an issue when you come back from a day hike.
The pool was open but had a strange murky green quality and hadn't been cleaned. Some kids were swimming it in, but we didn't find it appealing, which was dissapointing after a hot smokey hike in Yosemite.
The veranda rooms do have french doors onto the veranda. Nice and airy when no one else is around. But the veranda is also a circulation path, so privacy is limited on the Veranda side when your drapes and windows are open. You have to close the heavy drapes for privacy, cutting off fresh air and natural light. Lace curtains or sheers would be a positive addition behind the drapes. So would moving the circulation path down off the veranda. The latches on the veranda doors and windows are simplistic and one window had no latch at all, which wasn't an issue for us, but if non-guests are at the BBQ on the lawn, I would be concerned.
We stayed while there were wild fires very close by and we asked the front desk about the fires' locations and if we should be concerned. The clerk was no help, and could provide no information on the fires, conditions at Yosemite, or if our belongings in the room could be at risk. I appreciate that the desk clerk was worried about her own home and belongings, but they are providing a service by working the desk of an "Inn". If we had known how close the fires were to SSR we would have packed our belongings in the car and taken them with us to Yosemite that day. No harm done, but the Wawona Inn in Yosemite was providing current info for their guests and pre warned arriving guests as well.
All in all this is a rustic motor hotel for mid week guests not a ranch. A room and a bath and nothing more.
