“Great place to stay near Yosemite”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2008

This was one of those rare places that lived up to all of the positive reviews. The lobby was spacious and tranquil, the room was nice (and when they say the place is "nestled in the mountains," they really mean it), and the bed was actually very comfortable. It was everything we could've hoped for at a decent price and within reasonable reach of Yosemite. I'd definitely stay here again.

  • Liked — The comfy bed, the idyllic surroundings and the location
  • Disliked — Nothing, really -- I had no complaints

We stayed here overnight while visitng Yosemite park. I was traveling with my husband and two girls (5 & 8). The hotel is located 40 minutes approx. from Yosemite's south entrance. The road to get there is very curvey and nauseating. The drive is worth it to go to see the sequoias.

As for the hotel, it is older, but clean. Worth the price we paid. We were on the second floor, and heard no noise from our neighbors. The room had comfy beds but the pillows could've been better. It was a nice experience.

As for the restaurant, do not eat there. The hostess was rude and clueless. We stood in line on a Friday morning when the place was only barely occupied and waited what seemed forever. The hostess had no idea how to deal with customers. She would take an incoming group, seat them and serve them their coffees and such while the line just stared at her. She didn't seem to notice us waiting as other people were cashing out their bill, which she seemed to make them her priority.

The service after we sat down wasn't much better. As I said, the place was practically empty but the staff moved at a snail's pace. It took 25 minutes to place an order and when our food finally came, it was cold. We didn't complain as we wanted to get on the road and we couldn't find our server anyway. The food was just blah and the only thing at our table that was even good was the pancakes. We did get a discount for being a hotel guest but it was still expensive. Lastly, the coffee was weak and terrible. We recommend going to a different breakfast location.

There aren't too many economical choices in the Yosemite area. This is one of the few lodging costing less than a hundred a night. I only stayed there for 1 night because I couldn't book something inside the Yosemite Park for that specific day. I think a day or 2 are fine but I won't want to stay longer.

The lobby is very nice. Lodge feel with wood crafting but the "prettiness" of the hotel pretty much ends here. The room is no thrills. It has everything you needs but nothing really outstanding. I don't feel the room is very clean which could be due to the dark decor.

Even booking with the hotel directly doesn't give you free breakfast. Overall, nothing wow you but nothing really scary.

We found this hotel to be very nice and spacious. We had a two bedroom family room which about $100 (not sure exact price) and stayed here for two nights.

It is set in a big park like setting, with lots of trees and squirrels. We had a balcony overlooking a childrens playground which our children enjoyed. The pool and spa was very nice also.

If you are travelling with young children remember that it is an hour long drive on a windy road to Yosemite Valley. Also try and leave early as it does get quite busy. We hired some bikes in the valley which we found to be a good family activity. There were lots of squirrels around.

The staff at the hotel were friendly and is a free computer for internet access. The room was clean and the beds were comfortable.

  • Liked — Spacious rooms, good pool area and value for money.
  • Disliked — Distance from Yosemite.

This one was a little pricey, but after seeing how much everything else is in the area it looks like we got a good deal. We had been traveling 10 plus hours and this place was a welcome outpost to unwind and recharge the batteries. Nice big rooms, in-door and out-door pools, great landscaping and lobby. In this area, it was money well spent. If we are ever in the area again, we will be staying here again.

We paid what we feel was a very reasonable price for our room ($88.00) and were really pleased - it was VERY nice! The room iwas spacious, the bathroom was large and very modern, and everything was nicely decorated and clean. The setting is gorgeous - and the property is quite large so it's all very park like. I didn't use the pool but looked in on it and it seemed very pleasant - lots of kids were enjoying it. The office is gorgeous - it looks like a luxury lodge and we enjoyed browsing the quality gift shop. The one thing I didn't like was that although there was free internet service, it wasn't wireless. Since most places are wireless I hadn't brought a cable. They did say they could provide one at the desk, but since I was only staying for one night I didn't bother. This was a very minor inconvenience. It's a short drive to Yosemite, and there are lots of good restaurants to choose from that are close by. Breakfast is not included but there is a resetaurant on site and you get a 20% discount if you are staying at the hotel. Highly recommended!

  • Liked — The decor and outdoor setting
  • Disliked — Would have preferred wireless internet and a continental breakfast to be included with room

The hotel was easy to find, right off the main street through oakhurst. The lobby was beautiful and the building was kept up very nicely. The room was on the second level, and did overlook the main road. The walls were very soundproof though - we didn't hear any traffic or next door neighbors. The room was quite large with nice decor. The bathroom was big, and more importantly, very clean. There was a little area outside the bathroom that had a microwave, fridge, sink, and cupboards and a coffee maker. Free parking, down the stairs from the room. We had dinner at Todd's BBQ (down the main street on the left) which was AMAZING. Breakfast at Katie's Country Kitchen (down the main street to the right, two buildings, walkable), which was adequate.
Overall the best western was a great stay! We would stay there again in a heartbeat!

  • Liked — Clean and quiet
  • Disliked — Smelled like cleaner chemicals a little in the room
