The ambiance is great and the food matches up. I had a dynamite steak sandwich, which was reasonable priced. I was super.

“Beyond disappointing... based on other internet reviews”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

In town for one night before touring Yosemite Park. Saw the Sweet Water Restaurant and it looked nice. We then checked it out on the internet and the reviews seemed okay too.

First impressions can say a lot about a place. Unfortunately, the Sweet Water Restaurant looks okay on the outside but it's what goes on inside that counts. Our experience of this restaurant was anything but positive:
- a rude hostess who, after informing us that it would be a 25 minute wait to get a table, also suggested that if we didn't like it we could go get fast food. Visible from the front door were at least two tables that were empty and available.
- a bartender (who also happens to be the owner) who was too busy to take orders because he was talking to some customers about their travel plans. After ten minutes, he was still chatting with the same customers and still too busy to serve drinks. When approached again about ordering drinks, he asked one of the waitresses to look after us.
- while the steaks were tender, if you like salt - and more salt - enjoy.
- as well, the vegetables that were served with the steaks were cold and under cooked.
About the only thing that was positive was our waitress and the bus boy who seemed to be working hard.

“Great steaks - freezing aircon”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

Staying at Bass Lake we went for a steak in Oakhurst, which is a nice little town with a variety of restaurants. Sweetwater Steakhouse was busy and not especially friendly. They excused being short of staff and asked us to wait in the bar until a table was ready. In the bar we did not get served and kids (6+12) were asked not to sit at the bar due to California law. However - since the bar is the general waiting area for all guests - why ignore families needs The focus of the bartender was with the men watching sports on the TV.
However - a table was soon ready and service and food in the restaurant was good. Steaks were excellent and huge - done just in the right way. Service was nice. The only negative was a freezing aircon, which came out from the wall underneath the table. Not too smart for women and kids wearing a dress - we used to linen napkins as blankets..

The quality of food would give a 4 - the bar experience + the icy aircon takes the total to a 3.

“Well worth it.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2012

The hubby was hungry for meat, so we went here after a day of hiking and biking in Yosemite, since it was near our hotel. He loved the steak! My BLTA (bacon-lettuce-tomato-avocado) sandwich was very good. I especially liked the sourdough bread.

“Nice Steaks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2012

This place has come a long way. They have grown into a pretty dang good steakhouse. Their beginnings were a tad shaky with inconsistent service. Prime rib is awesome!
