We really enjoyed our 3 day stay at Chateau du Sureau. The staff were professional, friendly, unpretentious and discrete. There is no check-in desk and we really felt at home in the Chateau rather than in a hotel. Beautiful flowers throughout. The room was beautifully appointed. European breakfast was excellent quality and served in a quiet room - some day to day variation in the breakfast meat platter ould have been appreciated - but overall great. When we arrived back at the room one night we found that the staff had placed Chateau du Sureau bookmarks in our books at the correct pages - very sweet.

The Chateau du Sureau is really quite different from the other hotels on our trip. In visiting California, we hadn't expected to find ourselves cosseted in the comfort of Austria of a bygone era. But, service is exceptionally warm and friendly and the charms of this small hotel soon won us over. The rooms are very comfortable, each uniquely furnished with period antiques and overlook a small but very well kept garden. Associated with the hotel is a very fine restaurant serving food and wine in the Austrian tradition. The hotel is very well located for Yosemite and I would highly recommended it - especially for anyone wishing to add a European flavour to their trip.

This was an anniversary celebratory 3-day weekend hosted by our children - 6 of us in all. The rooms are all different but equally well appointed with comfortable beds and fine linens, and the adjoining baths are large and provide separate shower and tub. The overall impression is of a luxurious Bavarian, small, intimate hotel. The service is impeccable and attentive without being overbearing. What impressed us was the attention to detail wherever you looked... bags of bottled water and snacks as you leave for a hike in Yosemite, CDs and player in the room, afternoon iced tea and sandwiches upon arrival, luxurious robes for the bath, bowls of fresh fruit and plates of delectable confections always accessible and a lovely main sitting room downstairs for watching an afternoon ball game while sipping champagne. Unbelievable.

For those who want to be pampered there is a spa on site. We took a refreshing dip in the pool after hiking and in the morning walked down to the bocce ball court and life-sized outdoor chess board. Everywhere one looks the flowers, creative sculptures and lush views surround you in beauty.

We ate our dinners in Erna's Elderberry Restaurant located right next to the hotel. The food was perfection, and, as with the hotel, the atmosphere was Old World elegance. Again, the service was first class. With a menu printed specially for our group at each dinner, we felt cared for beyond measure.

Tip: The rooms away from the highway are quietest.

We will recommend this extraordinary place without hesitation to our friends, and we will certainly be back!

We were looking forward to staying at the Cahteau du Sureau and it lived up to expectations and more. No detail is overlooked, the rooms are beautiful and full of lovely touches, home made cookies, a welcoming snack, and faultless service. They manage to care for every detail without being pretentious, which is quite a feat.

Dinner at the Elderberry House was a real treat for the palate, again with wonderful service, which was not overbearing.

The little touches didn't end with the going away goodie bag, but we noticed that our windscreen had been cleaned for us once we were on the road. Now THAT is service.

If you want to spoil yourselves, this is one good place to do it.
