While on a vacation to Yosemite, CA we decided to celebrate my birthday at a Japanese restaurant. We checked the yellow pages, and found three in Oakhurst.
We decided to try Oka, and were we glad we did. The decor was unusual and delightful. The walls were painted aqua, with swirls to indicate water, and the ceiling was painted to look like the surface of the ocean. There were metal fish "swimming" through the water on the walls.
We decided on the teppan grill and ordered an assortment of steak, seafood and chicken. The chef was more talented than even those at Benihana, and the quality of the meat and fish was outstanding. We all enjoyed the delicious food, especially the steak. It was the most tender I had ever tasted, and cooked just as requested.
When we decided to order green tea ice cream for dessert, the waitress warned us that we might want to share. We're glad we did, as we were served bowls of ice cream, not the usual small scoop served at most Japanese restaurants.
I'm already looking forward to visiting Oka again, the next time we go to Yosemite. This restaurant is about 50 to 60 minutes drive out of the valley, and it is worth the drive.
