The following is the email I sent to the owners of the Pine Rose Inn. I did not include the fact that my husband got a nasty rash from using the jacuzzi (I smelled it and didn't want to use it). We recieved no response to our email to them, thus I felt like sharing this with everyone>maybe just take your dogs and cats there!
Dear Anita and Greg Griffin,
My husband and I stayed with you this past Friday and Saturday nights of May 7th and 8th, in the Bird's Nest room. The room was satisfactory, though a little musty and the jacuzzi had mold in it (and smelled of an overuse of chemicals) but your decorations were clever and the feather bed very comfortable. We LOVED your beautiful roses everywhere. Your B & B was a gift from my husband for our vacation. He surprised me with it since I had gone camping with him for a few days. It was to be very special, since it was a gift, but I must say I was disappointed in the overall experience. This was not really a Bed and Breakfast, as we were not able to get coffee or anything to eat until around 9:15. Despite the advertised "coffee available in the lobby anytime after 8 am", we couldn't get anyone to open the door after knocking and ringing the bell twice, once at 8:05 Sat. AM and once at 8:30. We then went to our room and had stale coffee and powdered creamer. On Sunday there was no coffee in your lobby at 8:30 either. It hadn't brewed yet. And what happened to the "fresh homemade cinnamon rolls every AM"? I was really looking forward to that!
We thought that 9 AM was late for breakfast, since we wanted to get on the road to Yosemite, but we thought we'd enjoy what we paid for. Although we were at the tables at 9, we really didn't get served until around 9:30. Thus, we decided to skip the late breakfast on Sunday. (The breakfast on Saturday also did not taste fresh, your french toast was good, but the bacon and sausage and/or maple syrup was stale or freezer burned.)
I am glad that my husband didn't tell me what he paid for the room before all this, or I may have taken the $25.00 loss and moved out on Saturday. I am sure this does not always happen, maybe it was just a bad day for you - but it was obvious that your B & B was not busy, altho it was a holiday weekend. What could we expect at a busier time of the year? We have both been in customer service/public relations for years and know what good customer service is. We have never had an experience like this at a B & B in all our years of travel. Our friends and relatives are all asking us where we stayed and how it was...well, what can we say - just don't go for the breakfast!?
I don't want to copy all this to the BnBfinder, tripadvisor, etc. sites. I feel you are nice people, just overstressed. I do think the Chamber of Commerce and B & B Associations should know that you are not always providing the services you advertise however.
