“Best Steak, Worst Wait”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

My mom lives in the area and my husband LOVES their steak. So we go every time we visit. And we wait, and wait and wait. And they take reservations, but they are 100% meaningless. They still sit folks pretty much first come first served. And you can sometimes wait up to 90 minutes to get seated, no joke. So don't come hungry because by the time you actually sit you'll be dying.

Even though it is a steak place, the halibut is one of the best I've ever had. Also, because they are in a wine area, the wines they serve are excellent and at an incredibly reasonable price point.

Based on food alone I'd rate a 5. But the wait, general dumpiness of the place and the staff's attitude make them lose a point. I'd try it if you're in the area, but be prepared for the drawbacks.

“Tactical Eating!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2013

We have a terrific meal everytime we go to Jockos. First advice, make the earliest reservations possible, since the waiting area is limited and the bar can be crowded and is vey dark. Second, if you are under 6 feet tall prepare to ask for a "doggy bag" (but the leftovers are too good for the dog!). Third, you must factor in relish tray, bread, beans, salad, ice cream dessert into the total eating equation and tactically speaking you don't want to miss any of it!. Our favorite is the small Spencer, medium rare...I can finish the whole thing and limp out of there totally full. For first timers to Jockos the first bite of the meat is absolutely outstanding. I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 because of the waiting area, and the need for upgraded interior, but I understand that it is a lot like eating in 1968 in there.

“Delicious!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 30, 2013

Went there with friends. My husband ordered the pork chops. Two large pork chops came on his plate. I had the lamp. Both were delicious, but we could not finish them. Food was really good, service good, and so much fun with our friends. There were 8 of us and we were treated with excellent service. Will definitely go back again if in the area.

“Where's the beef? ... It's at Jocko's !!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

I've been going to Jockos a couple times a year for roughly 25 years. And though Jocko's isn't big on atmosphere, it's the steaks that bring me back again and again. It's true, you feel like you're in a old coffee shop when you go in. But wander to the back and you can see the huge grills with those awesome cuts of beef sizzling away! My favorite is the spencer steak, but the filet was excellent as well. DO NOT drive through Nipomo without going to Jocko's! You will definitely be back again and again!

“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

Just finished another great dinner at Jocko's. Only 2 servers on our side of the house because one called in sick. The service was still great, prompt and friendly. Delicious Spencer, filet steaks, pork ribs, all cooked perfectly to order over oak coals and a huge portion of king crab legs that melt in your mouth. Used to get flimsy fries but now, if you ask for extra crisp that's what you get. Still the best, affordable, steak house in the area. Not foo foo pretty, just good wholesome food. Reservations a must or wait 2 hours or more. You don't have to sit by the pit to see how they grill everything, there's a viewing area you can watch from near the grill. Worth taking a look.
