“Fairmont quality place, but not quality people”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 8, 2012

The hotel is likely an older property, but not older in the sense it was built during a grand era of luxury from the roaring 20's or the industrialist era. More like 60's, 70's, 80's era. The hotel itself is impressive in its spaciousness and cleanliness. The rooms were equally spacious and one of the largest rooms I've ever stayed in at any Fairmont. Beds were extraordinarily comfortable and the room was nearly flawless.

Now, the service staff from the front desk to the valets to the concierge, were less than impressive and that's being charitable. The front desk was surly and majority of employees in the lobby area seemed to be on the verge of a union strike. Now perhaps the only reason the service felt so poor was because typically my experience with Fairmont hotels was their exceptional service from top to bottom.

Internet service was average.

The bed was very comfortable. The bathroom looked updated and was very nice. But other than that the room just wasn't that great. Most of the furniture had nicks and things seemed unclean. The chair and carpet had visible stains. And the worst part of the room was the heating system. It was extremely, extremely loud. Just to hear TV I had to turn the volume up to twice as much as I had it when heating system was not going. And the room smelled of smoke but they told me I had a no smoking room. I called the front desk and ask if there's anything that could be done or if I could be changed to a different room. The front desk was rude and told me there was nothing I can do so I was stuck.

Also this hotel does have a lot of extra charges. The Internet is $14.50. The bottle of water in the room is seven dollars. Valet parking was $28 a day. And you don't have other parking options.

We live in Orange County but stayed here for 1 night to celebrate a special occasion. We were upgraded to a junior suite and greeted with a fruit platter. With a 3 year old and very busy schedules, my husband and I enjoy mini weekend getaways, and the Fairmont did not disappoint. We had breakfast in bed included in our package. Parking was a bit pricey, but overall, we really enjoyed staying here and will definitely do it again!

This is the fourth time that we have stayed at this hotel. The rooms are spacious and spotless, bathroom really big and bathrobe and slippers were extremely comfy. The beds are really comfortable. We never use the valet parking - just park in the car park adjacent to the hotel or across the road at Jamba Juice - we do that every time.

Room Tip: You don't have to pay for an expensive breakfast - there are plenty of breakfast places nearby

The "Manager", only female behind the desk on 12/1/12 at reservation at 10PM was quite frankly the rudest person I have ever met at any hotel. She gave away the room a I made sure to call in ahead of time to reserve for a late checkin because of health issues and than had the nerve to ask for $50 to be put back in a comparable room!!!

The hotel is OK for its category and you get a comfortable room/beds.
First con, the very close proximity with the airport.
Second con, I don't know where the beach is. The hotel is inland, in fact very close (driving) to UC Irvine. When you arrive from the LA-SD highway, the hotel is on the left, bur there is a way to turn left just in front of it.
Third con - major. Internet costs 14$
Fourth con - unacceptable: valet parking is compulsory and you have to pay 28$
Fifth con - breakfast is very expensive
Sixth con - pool was closed for renovation.

This is the kind of hotel where they will try to suck every dollar they can from you.
I'll never go there again

We have recently stayed at the hotel with my wife on a one night getaway. The hotel is clean, extremely tastefully appointed. The rooms are simply but luxuriously furnished and are a good size. The bedding was some of the most comfortable that we have seen at any other hotel. The restaurant was closed but the drinks and the service at the bar was great. We can highly recommend it.

Room Tip: The best classy place to have a romantic dinner in the neighborhood is Houston's or Bistango Res...
