“Ocean View, Hmmmm”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013 via mobile

So I can't complain b/c my ocean view room was free. However, if I was paying OOP I would have been a little miffed. I have stayed at many hotels with ocean view and u clearly see the ocean and all its glory. With that being said the hotel was clean and the service was EXCELLENT!!! Great pool and bar areas. You can't walk to the beach, unless u are going for a hike, but Nordstroms is directly across the street.

For the beach, no.
For shopping and chill axing, for sure!

My girl friend and I are on a quest to comparison shop couples massages at three different Marriott resorts in 10 days.
First the property and personnel are top rate. Not a problem at all.
Apparently, according to the spa at the Marriott, the city of Newport Beach doesn't permit couples massages. What a bummer. We had separate massages and each of us rate them as okay. No where near the ones we had at Laguna Cliffs Marriott.

Stayed here for three nights in March of 2013 with just my wife - large clean rooms. good location for exploring the different parts of Newport Beach ( we were attending a conference in Anaheim, and decided to stay outside of the conference area ). Friendly staff were helpful at check-in when we were dragging from time change, and while it was a nice place in terms of having everything one might expect from hotel, it seems generic ( similar to what someone else mentioned about it lacking pizzazz). Internet seemed to be free for us (not sure why other poster got charged ). My main gripe is the parking - charging over $20 a day for guests seems like nickel and diming customers - especially in light of fact that not once was garage actually manned by anyone - I could have parked and left as the gate was up entire time I was there.

I stayed for one night only and was jet-lagged. Check in was excellent and efficient. Room was clean, reasonably fitted out. I had a lovely view over a carpark. Sheets and towels were not what I would expect for a "Spa" hotel. The Hotel seems really to be aimed at Golfers and their better half (hence the spa) but with little soul to the whole place. It is also a convention venue. Room Service was reasonable but a very small menu. Minibar was empty. Breakfast was ok. No hotel information in the room. Not sure if I would stay here again.

I stayed there for 5 nights and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I really felt welcomed as staff is very warm and friendly. Check in was super fast and my luggage was sent to room quickly. Room was nice, bathroom had "Bath and bodywork" toiletries but no bath tub. Bed and pillow were good, room felt really clean.

I used room service twice and being a vegetarian asked for special sandwich, kitchen staff accommodated my request happily.

Best part if the stay was breakfast. Wow... You can squeeze fresh juice by yourself. I really liked this option. Bill, the egg station manager is an artist and he made delicious and beautiful "Egg white and avocado" omelette. Staff was eager to serve and @23.50, it's great value too.

Overall, a great place to stay. Will stay again for sure.

I've stayed at this hotel twice, most recently in March of 2013. It's got all the basics of a good hotel experience: it is clean, comfortable, quiet (at least during my stays), safe. Internet access was okay in terms of speed, for about $12 a day. The staff were nice and helpful, but I didn't need to interact with them much.

The weather when I visited didn't lend itself much to use the pool, but it looked nice.

There is a Sam and Harry's in the premises that you can use for your immediate dining needs.

The hotel has a definite resort-like feel to it, which suffers a bit when you don't have resort-like weather. The feel of the place is a bit cheaper than other Marriott's that don't go for the resort experience.

The hotel also suffers from being in a 'blah' suburban location. The only meaningful place you can walk to is the Fashion Island mall across the street, which tends to have high-end stores, none with a particular local flavor (e.g., you won't find any UC Irvine shirts there).

Room Tip: You will get nicer views in rooms higher up, especially if you get to see the ocean.

Incredibly friendly service….staff could not be more accommodating, friendly and outgoing. These people really make you feel welcome and that they have your interests at heart. A model of perfection when it comes to taking care of customers!

The physical plant, however, is mediocre. The furniture and carpet are all in good repair and everything is clean and neat. It is just that this property has that “old and tired” design era problem. Looks like it was built in the 60’s with what is now outdated architecture compared to newer resort hotels.

Room Tip: don't waste money on ocean view......you need binoculars to see the ocean from anywhere on this...
