“Ok, but 22 dollars for self-parking.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2014

They needed our two bed room for something else, so we got the opportunity to upgrade. It was a king bed room, and we had to put an extra bed in. With the room it followed a number of amenities, which was great. We also found out that the room had a great view. That was also great.

But 22 dollars for self-park is a fail. The resort fee disease has also infected this hotel. There is no reason not to include this in the total when you reserve the hotel room. It is just a stupid practice.

Other than that it was a good hotel.

I had a wonderful room with a view of one of the pools. Plenty of space, but no microwave in the room. Wait staff in the bar was overwhelmed with the number of people there for the convention I was at. They need to have more wait staff during these times. They had a giant chess board and full size shuffle board that you could play at no charge.

Room Tip: ask for a room in the building by the front pool.

This Hyatt Regency has lush rolling lawns with mature landscaping and lots of bunnies roaming the venue. We appreciate this setting. The premium location is wonderful for visitors. The property is situated on Newport Back Bay and a very short distance to world class shopping, restaurants and beautiful Newport Beach, Balboa Island and Laguna Beach.

Friendly staff and recent room upgrades were welcomed.
It is a more casual Hyatt Regency, but, well suited for the beach. Request rooms in the pavilion area. Rooms by the pool are older , smaller snd do not have patios.

Many great restaurants are nearby. This is the area we live in and appreciate yhe selection.

As a Hyatt Diamond member I've stayed at many Hyatt Regency hotels and this is on the bottom of my list. The noise level in the rooms is appalling. You can literally hear people above, below, and to the side. The walls in the newly refurbished rooms in the main building are paper thin. Any time someone opens their door to get outside it sounds like bowling balls rolling around above you. The staff at the hotel is fully aware of the sound issues but play coy any time a guest brings this up. I brought it up with a front desk agent who did an amazing job of acting like he had never heard of the noise issues. Not 15 minutes goes by and another guest approached the same front desk agent who was told the same response that the agent has never heard this! When asking if they had another room they said that they did, but did not want to move me to a sub-par room in a different building. I don't believe I was ever offered compensation or even an apology. The noise issue is so bad that they've had to lower the volume limit on the television and posts signs all around the resort asking for guests to be quiet after 10pm.

My second issue was the staff. I would like to know when the hotel started to scam guests into paying the resort fee when they are on award nights? It is Hyatt's corporate policy that guests staying on award nights or cash and point nights do NOT have to pay resort fees. This message has been confirmed by the corporate office on Flyertalk. I had to push the front desk to remove the fee from my bill. They told me they would do this as a "one time courtesy." The staff in the morning and afternoon are not very friendly. The staff in the evening were quite the opposite.

My last issue was with the bellmen. I had my luggage delivered to my room right after check-in. I had just flown in and did not have any cash to tip the bellman. I asked him if the hotel had an ATM and if he was going to be around for the next hour so I could give him a tip. His response was that he could walk me to the ATM. I said that I wanted to settle into the room first. He then offered three more times to walk me to the ATM. When I said no he turned around in a huff and stomped his way out of the room. When I tracked the bellman down about 45 mins later to tip him he was very unpleasant.

This has been one of the most wonderful resorts I have been to. The charm, the laid back atmosphere, the decor, the food, the entertainment was fabulous. This resort is a must do vacation spot for families or couples. I love how spread out it is and how relaxing it is. It's a stone's throw from Balboa Island, and Fashion Island so don't wait, book a trip now.. This would be a memory you wouldn't want to miss...

Great time at this property. Very relaxing. And mgmt was on top of everything.
From front desk check to room service. Excellent!!!
The shuttles from the hotel to the shopping mall and to the beach area was a definite plus.
Also, the early morning coffee area was a great plus for early risers like myself.
The concert on Friday evening was very well presented with areas for refreshments set and well maintained.

Room Tip: The villas were excellent ofr a family or couples traveling together

Outstanding friendly staff who went out of their way to be helpful. Amazing atmosphere with tons to do for kids and adults! The food on site was outstanding! The many pool options allowed fun or just relaxing pool side. Overall it was an amazing hotel that I would stay at again and recommend to everyone.
