Sorry to sound like a snob, but Kitayama is more like an American's fantasy of a good Japanese restaurant than like the real thing. I think I am qualified to judge this after having spent most of my adult life in Tokyo - the menu is more attuned to Western tastes, and the decor very 80's Benihana. Our waitress told us the local Japanese customers seldom eat here. We ordered a variety of smaller dishes, salads and a few larger plates (tempura was ok), but it lacked the flavor and presentation that you'd find at Sui (nearby authentic Izakaya). Final word - it's a nice place with reasonable food, but don't be fooled into thinking it's the real thing. Better food at cheaper prices can be found elsewhere.
