“Paradise @ Marriott's Newport Coast, CA”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

We own a Marriott Time Share and spend several days each year at this Marriott situated on the Pacific Ocean at Newport Coast.

You do not have to own a time share to rent a unit at this Marriott.

Each unit is 2 bedroom/2bath fully furnished including a washer and dryer. The units we have used all have a balcony overlooking the Pacific. There are several pools, shuffle board and other areas including a workout center and a golf course.

Nearby is Laguna Beach, down the road is San Juan Capistrano and so many other places to visit too numerous to mention. About 2 hours South is San Diego.

If we win the lotto we are moving to Newport Coast - it is to die for! Moderate Weather Year Round.

Room Tip: If you can afford to rent this vacaton villa do it.

We went to the marriot after attending a seminar in Palm Springs. We are marriot timeshare owners so we knew we were going to get "the speech" had no intention on buying a second timeshare but were talked into because we really like the new point system. The resort is beautiful but you do have a difficult time getting one of the villas with a view. If you're
lucky enough to get one you have magnificent view of the pacific. The villas are clean and well kept. It certainly isn't Pelican Hill (across the road, which we stayed previously ) but it's about half the price.

Stayed here for the weekend, finishing up a California week vacation. We had no idea it was a timeshare but upon checking in I figured it out in 3.4 seconds. A few polite No thank you and I brushed thru the door like the cool Ocean wind. They called my room a few times but I never answered. The rooms are quite nice and plenty of room. We were on the bottom floor (not the greatest) but we were close to the pool and BBQ where I was dieing to cook my own meal so I didn't care. The unit had very nice and large tv's however the cable was down and they never worked for anyone in this section. The pool was very comfortable and it was full of kids which was fine because we were a family as well. The one thing you need to know ismitmis a very large property so if you plan to walk to the other pools or main lodge get your hiking boots on. My largest complaint and reason for the average rating is that the hotel is not built very well. I can hear every footstep of the people above me beginning at 0530. No problem, I got a flight early in the morning tommorow, pay backs are awesome.

I'm an owner at this property and have stayed here a number of times before. We are here on a weekend package price (we had a family event in the area to attend) on the condition we attend an owners' presentation.

Being on the weekend package, we knew we weren't getting an ocean view. (We actually have a nice garden view and a patio, so that part's OK.) We didn't know that they've changed the parking rules such that the second car in our party had to park so far from our villa that we have to drive people too and from it. The villas sleep eight (we have six here), and they provide two parking permits. Our second car arrived at midnight, and it was a real burden that they couldn't be anywhere close to us.

We also got a villa that was downstairs from the street level with no elevator. We had to carry our luggage and groceries down a steep flight of stairs. Whatever happened to ADA requirements?

The villas that looked so nice in 2006 when we purchased still look like 2006. The furnishings and carpeting are worn and dated-looking. The living room furniture is uncomfortable. There are no convenient outlets in the master bedroom for chargers/phones. When you come for a longer stay at a villa you bring electronics. How about somewhere to plug them in? The ice maker was off so there was no ice. The clock radio was set for midnight and woke us up with loud, blaring music. There was no binder of villa information.

But I've saved the worst for last. At 11 p.m., three security guards rang our doorbell, demanded to know who we are, and insisted on identification. Who we are? We're the same people who checked into this villa a few hours ago--and showed identification to do so. They gave some weird explanation about someone with a similar name "squatting" in a villa that didn't belong to them, but what did that have to do with us? We were exactly who and where we were supposed to be. 11 p.m. on vacation? It better be an emergency.

The location is great and the property is lovely as it always has been. It's a nice place, but you pay a premium to come here and have fun, and I'm more stressed out than I would be at home. Use your money to travel somewhere that they care about you and don't treat you like cattle.

Oh, also--I can't wait for the timeshare presentation where they try to get us to spend lots of money for even more of this. Good luck with that.

Room Tip: Rooms close to the main building or with an ocean view are the most desirable. But good luck gettin...

We are sorry to hear that you did not have a positive experience at Marriott's Newport Coast Villas. During periods of peak occupancy, it is necessary to restrict the number of parking spaces per villa. The resort does offer a shuttle from the parking area to your villa. Our resort is ADA compliant and all of out ADA villas have elevator and ramp access. The ice maker is emptied and cleaned after every guest to ensure it is sanitized for the next guest. Your experience with the security staff is not typical of the guest experience at our resort and we would appreciate an opportunity to personally address your concerns. Please contact us at customer.care@vacationclub.com or at 800 860 9384.

We were impressed by this excellent well run resort. It was a great place for a holiday - we enjoyed the spacious 2 bedroom apartment and amenities. The 3 swimming pools are great, super warm and the grand-kids just loved them. There are 3 nice tennis courts, well maintained and easy to book. Everywhere at the resort, there was efficient and friendly service. The resort is very well located with a shuttle service to beautiful Crystal Cove beach which is close by. It is also close to Fashion Island, great for Newport Beach, Balboa Island and the peninsula.

We stayed here for 5 nights at the end of a month long road trip. We wanted somewhere to put our feet up and relax. This was just about perfect. We had a two bedroom apartment and it was massive by European standards. The main bedroom was huge, massive bath and a double shower. It was also so good to have a proper kitchen, dining area and washer + tumble dryer. The pools were great. We based ourselves around the main three but there were others. Facilities on site were good with the exception that we would have preferred to have had a restaurant where we can sit down and eat in the evening as there is nothing after the pool bar closes at 7. It was explained to us by the timeshare sales rep ($250 free if you can stand the 2 hour pitch but not a hard sell) that as the resort is an owner timeshare, a restaurant would lose money and so the owners had decided against a proper food sit down in the evening. I can understand this but be prepared to eat out or cook for yourself in the evening.

This is our second trip to Marriott's Newport Coast Villas. This is just like many of the Marriott Timeshare properties with most units being 2 bedroom and living room spaces that sleep 6. We like the NCV because it is in Newport, close to many beaches, shopping and restaurants. We are owners at another Marriott property and were invited to attend a presentation in exchange for a special rate. The property is large, and on a steep hillside, so it's a little work out walking from one place to another, there are shuttles though. The Crystal Cove beach is at the bottom of the hill, and quite a hike if you want to walk. The exercise facilities are well equipped. The pool area is very popular, and filled with families and kids. Lounge chairs by the pool were in high demand when the sun came out. In the afternoon there was live music by the pool, a nice touch.
The rooms are standard Marriott fare, that is quite nice, but I think after several years, showing a little wear. Our room was clean, but there was an interesting practice of leaving the trash outside the front door to be picked up later, in some cases up to 1 day later. Some animal got to our trash bag left outside overnight, and spread the trash all over the front step.
We like to go to the Salt Creek Beach a few miles south, the best. Laguna Beach is good for window shopping and restaurants. Newport Fashion Island is a few miles north, and houses many shops that are not usually found in your typical malls in the US of A.
If you get a good price on a rental, NCV is a good choice.

Room Tip: I think that the rooms near the top of the property are more desirable than the rooms at the bottom.
