“Too much room for 2”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2012

My wife and I had just gotten back from a 3 week trip in Nepal hiking EBC and I wanted a REALLY nice beach hotel to reward ourselves. I felt like I did my homework, but I failed. This place would be perfect for a family of 4 who wants to be close to the beach, but the resort is neither on the beach or "overly nice." I am a platinum Marriott member and while this was a good hotel, I would not come back for an over-the-top romantic night like I mistakenly did.

Another negative: I had forgotten to put the customer parking sign on my car dash (it was on the seat) during our one-night stay and the security guard put a really messy sticker on my window that said something to the effect of, "Last warning, next time we'll tow your car." This Marriott is not in a big town and I couldn't not see why this would be necessary as it doesn't seem to be close to any places of interest. The sticker was really flaky and wouldn't come off until I got my car washed... Thanks Marriott.

Our room had a full kitchen, a big living area, and a pretty nice bedroom. The bathroom was good and there was a whirlpool bathtub. The bed was amazing, as all upper scale Marriott's are. We were thankful for this...

We didnt get to experience the pools since it was November.

Bottom Line: This hotel is perfect for a family with kids or business travelers staying more than a week, not for couples staying less than 4 nights.

We stayed at the Newport Coast Villas for a week this past Christmas and it was absolutely fantastic!! At check-in, I requested a higher floor (thanks to past reviews on this property) with or without a view of the ocean, and got more than what I asked for! We were booked in the 46 or 4700 building, it was at the end of the cul-de-sac and our villa had amazing views of the Pacific from every window. I was traveling with my husband and 1 year old son, so having the kitchen and spare bedroom was a lifesaver. (That's also why I requested the higher floor -- after reading all the reviews about noise, I was anxious that my little one wouldn't sleep well, but we never heard our neighbors.) The decor was a bit dated, but honestly, who cares! The kitchen was stocked with eveyrthing you could need, including dish towels, a small bottle of dishwasher and regular dish detergent, paper towels and sponges. Every room had a TV. Maid service came every day. Waking up to views of the Pacific every morning was just incredible. We didn't have a chance to use it, but there were beautiful gas grills right outside of our building that were spotless. We definitely hope to return next year! Parking was never an issue either -- maybe that was because our building was at the end of the cul-de-sac. It got crowded at night, but you could always find a spot.

The grocery store near-by is called Pavillions. Zov's restaurant (in that shopping center) is fantastic, as well as the sushi place next door. You wouldn't think so because it's in a strip mall, but it was delicious. Fashion Island is 5 mins away. The location is just perfect.

Room Tip: Higher floor -- ask for a "quiet" location.

We chose this location because we wanted to have a family vacation with our daughter, who goes to school in Oregon, and had a short break - which put Hawaii, Florida and Mexico out of consideration. Marriott was offering a great deal on its Vacation club properties - so "why not". We found we really lucked out. The facilities are beautiful and wonderfully maintained and the staff super nice and friendly. The 2 BR Villas are laid out really well and furnished nicely. We had a rental car and it was really easy to get in and out explore the area - Newport Beach, Balboa Island, Laguna Beach.

The health and fitness center was really excellent - its open 24 hours and they provide headphones and a really full set of equipment. It was never crowded. Even though it was January, with hi temps only going to the low 70s - we were able to enjoy the heated pools and hot tubs and there were lots of other fun onsite recreation if you just wanted to kill time. If you bike - you can rent by the day or bring your own (lots of bike racks on site), as there are lanes along Pacific Coast Highway and a really nice bike / walking trail in Crystal Cove St Pk, which is just down the hill - and an easy bike/walk/or jog.

We did do the Vacation resort sales pitch - which was pleasant and low pressure and gave us an additional $250 in Amex Gift Cards.

We have stayed at this resort 4 times since it opened, and we love returning. The units are large with full kitchens, and almost every unit has a breathtaking view of Catalina Island and the Pacific Ocean from the living room balcony and master bedroom as the resort is built up a hillside.

With it's Italian feel and architecture, beautiful pool and fountains, you feel as if you are in Tuscany.

It is a 5 minute walk to down to Crystal Cove Beach, where you can see historic ocean front cottages, one of which is where the film "Beaches" was filmed. The village of Corona del Mar is a mile away, the artsy Laguna Beach is 3 miles away, offering a bevy of dining, shopping, strolling, surfing and picnicking options.

A Spa, 2 workout rooms, 3 pool areas, and several areas for young childreen and teenagers offer every amenity necessary. Grocery shopping is nearby, and the resort offers shuttle service to Fashion Island Shopping Center.

This resort is perfect, whether you wish to relax and read, or stay busy with the many attractions the Newport Coast has to offer.

Our family spent Christmas week here and really enjoyed the resort. The property is one of the best Marriott vacation resorts I have been to, very clean, updated and well maintained. The heated swimming pool was a treat in winter season for us and our one year old! Two-bedroom villa made it a home away from home. It's spacious (good size guest room and living room with full kitchen) and comfortable. The shower room in master bath room is oversized and has two shower heads. The location is perfect for us as we visited family and friends in orange county area. SNA airport is conveniently located about 10 miles away. Plenty shopping malls around such as Fashion Island and South Coast Plaza. If you love Asian food, you will find plenty authentic restaurants in nearby cities like Irvine. We will sure come back and highly recommend this resort to family with kids (no need to mention Disney World is only 20 miles away).

Our family, 5 adults & 2 children, stayed in a 2 bedroom suite in mid-December, 2011. We are mature adults and were with our adult children & grandchildren. This property was impressive from the start. Beautiful area and lovely mature landscaping. The lobby is large and beautiful with a grand view of the Pacific and pool area. Our room was on the 2nd level and we had a great view of the ocean. The suite itself was huge at almost 1300 sq. ft. The master suite, very large which had a large roman tub separate from the bathroom. The 2-person shower was also very large with sliding glass doors and shower heads at both ends. There is also a separate bathroom connected with the other bedroom. Both had beautiful tile & granite countertops. The kitchen was very nice with granite countertops, upscale cabinets, a full size refrigerator, microwave, oven, range, toaster, all kitchen utensils, plates & silverware and nice accent lighting. A washer & dryer were next to the kitchen. There were 2 pullout sofabeds, one in the living room & the other in the 2nd bedroom. The living room and dining area are connected and had plenty of room to watch the large flatscreen. Off of the living room there was a beautiful spacious verandah with a table and chairs. We were fortunate enough to have an ocean view, so we spent a lot of time taking in the fresh air and view. Our room was quiet and we never heard any noises from above, below, or next door. We spent our days at Disneyland, so we didn't have time for the pools, bike rentals, or other nice activities offered. A little bit of a drive to the Disney park, but made much easier on the toll roads. We couldn't have asked for anything nicer and would defintely stay here again!

This is the second time we have stayed here and I would definitely go back. All the units are two bedroom, two bath units with full kitchens. The master bedroom has a king size bed, and the other has a queen. There are three flat screen t.v.s if you have nothing else to do. We loved having the extra room and a kitchen to eat breakfast. Keep in mind that it is a time share property, therefore there isn't daily maid service. As long as you know that in advance you won't be disappointed. There are two grocery stores nearby, a Pavillions (basically a Safeway) and a Trader Joes.

We never ran out of things to do. We sat on the balcony each morning drinking coffee and reading the paper. We walked to the state park twice. We rented bikes in balboa. We shopped at Fashion Island. We drove to Capistrano. We ate supper at a different restaurant every night. We had a great time every day.

Room Tip: We liked the rooms farther away from the check in. They were quieter and seemed to have more parking...
