“Great location / Mediocre property”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2011

We stayed at the villas for the weekend and so glad we did not commit to a longer stay. We are Orange County locals and have always loved Crystal Cove, so we decided to stay here for the weekend to celebrate my husband's birthday. The positives are that the price is decent for a relatively spacious 2-BR villa. The location right across the street from Crystal Cove (our favorite beach) is great. The kids loved feeding the Koi fish (one of the free planned activities provided). Unfortunately, that is about it. The first room we were given had more updated appliances, but faced somewhat of a garage or work area with a loud street right outside our balcony. The second one was a bit better facing a small yard and shrubs. There was no elevator access down the the lower floor and was a bit dungeon-like. Although the property is only a few years old, the decor is quite dated with somewhat 80s style. Service is not at all impressive, and the food at the only restaurant is average at best, and took a long time to be prepared. Those traveling with babies: they only provide play pens - no cribs, and be sure to request it ahead of time as it takes at least 30 mins for delivery. It appears they do not have sufficient staff during our stay. The tap water is not drinkable, so be prepared to buy bottled water. This place is fine if you are looking for a spacious apartment-style lodging at a good location and you will be away most of the day for most of your trip, but it's best to know that before you go.

We stayed here with our extended family in Oct. 2010. We rented two 2-bedroom units and with the sofa sleepers, 15 slept comfortably. The facilities were immaculate, the rooms were spotless, and the view amazing! It was about a 20 minute drive to Disneyland, and grocery stores were about 10 minutes away. It was definitely a $ saver to have kitchens in the units. We loved it here and would recommend it to anyone!

We rented two units and were lucky to be placed side by side. We were assigned the golf view rooms which do not have elevators since only a few floors. Also to access the units there two level of steps going down. This area is not for clients with physical challenges The Master bedroom. has a king bed, soaking tub and a marble shower with dual shower heads.

The 2nd bedroom has a queen bed with a pull out sofa. The living room has a pull out sofa. . HD television in each room and free WIFI. They offer a great BBQ area with stainless steel BBQ grills.

The only negative is cell phone service is poor to none,. All of the cell phone providers were represented in our group along with BlackBerry, Iphone, Android. none worked anywhere on the property, Skype on your computer would be the answer if you need to make calls.
Otherwise a great stay, and can't wait to return.

Note: Senior and AAA rates are available.. The senior rate offers the best pricing.

Room Tip: It would be wise to mention when making your reservation to advise of physical limitations for corr...

Marriott's Newport Coast Villas was a wonderful place to return to after full days of enjoying all the attractions & beaches that the area offers. The grounds are beautiful & well maintained. Our unit was spacious & very clean. It was great to have a glass of wine on our balcony & watch the sunset over the Pacific. As others mentioned, we did not have any maid service, but we also didn't ask for anything. The resort is located half way between LA & San Diego. Crystal Cove is on the PCH at the foot of the resort; have at least 1 meal at the Beachcomber, you won't be sorry. Trader Joe's is close for the evenings we chose to grill at the resort. The ferry to Catalina is located on Balboa Island, very covenient. Corona del Mar & Laguna Beach are full of great shops & restaurants. The Mission at San Juan Capistrano is well worth the short drive. We spent a fabulous week & hope to return.

My family and I have stayed at this hotel several times, and normally we have experienced nothing but great service ---not this time. Unfortunately, we were told we'd be given a room on the top floor (my 2 year old is a very light sleeper) when I called, but upon arriving 2 hours later the front desk said that they don't have available on the property and that we'd have to stay on the first floor. After going back & forth, the manager did provide a credit to the resort's pool bar and snack shop. However, the entire stay was ruined by people in the room above us running back & forth the whole night. Even after we called to notify the hotel of this matter, nothing was done to resolve it even though we were told security would take care of it. The property itself is beautiful and the rooms are clean and updated. It would be nice if there was a real restaurant on site (they just have a burger type place near the pool, which was good but overpriced). Location is great because you are between Laguna Beach and Fashion Island (outdoor mall), so there's something for everyone. There are free shuttles, too, so you don't have to really drive. It's too bad that we had such a negative experience this time, because we really loved this place. We are not high maintenance guests whatsoever, but it was just one bad thing after another that left a real bitter taste in our mouths about returning.

Room Tip: Request a top floor so that noise from above isn't a factor when sleeping.

We are loyal Marriott customers and as such Marriott invited us to preview this property and their Vacation Club plan. The room rate was enticing, but we live in Texas so I was skeptical. The salesperson insisted that I would not be disappointed and specifically promised that we would have a view. So, we flew from Texas, and had NO view. Our room (#1112) was sort of a basement room with a bare hillside outside the front door and a huge sign on a fence ouside the the other side. Absolutely no place to sit outside for a cup of coffee or glass of wine with any kind of view. I don't like to complain, but I just couldn't get past this.

Room Tip: Buildings 1000 and 1100 are among the oldest and bottom levels have NO view.

A wonderful spot to vacation at! There was lots to do and great shopping. The hotel staff really went out of their way to make you feel welcome and Newport Beach was breath-taking! We had a wonderful room away from everything and spent a lot of time in it! The bed was very comfortable, the bath was nice an big and the food was great! We had most of our breakfasts in our room which was very nicely presented and had some of our evening meals in the restaurant. It was a relaxing place to stay and very nice and quiet.
