First off I would like to say that the staff was great. They were friendly and helpful. They even helped me get back to the hotel after I got lost driving around town. The room however was another story. We requested a room with a king size bed and got something like a "Providence king" aka small queen size bed (Providence is a small state versus California which is large, California king, Providence king, get it?... never mind). The room was also fairly small with nothing out of the ordinary. The few good points of the room were the balcony that overlooked the pool and the bedding, which was very soft.

This hotel is clean, mostly quiet (airport is less than 1 mile away)
and near downtown Newport businesses. The staff was gracious and helpful. The decor is a bit worn but all the furniture, appliances etc were functioning and I had no complaints. I left early each day and got back late at night. The restaurant was open until 10 PM and was above average for food and service.

We (family of 4, two kids 7 and 10) stayed here for 3 nights whilst visiting the local attractions (Disneyland etc). I have stayed in Radisson hotels before, and found them much better than this one. A bit dissapointed really.

For us there were two big problems with this hotel: noise and malfunctioning internet. The noise from John Wayne airport is annoying and almost constant from about 0600hrs through to about midnight. The wireless internet is free, but it didn't work! I tried just about everything to get the internet to work (hotel's wireless kit, help-line etc). I use the internet for free international phone calls, but its unavailabilty meant that I had to make two calls using the hotel phone (a $120 bill)! The excellent duty manager is investigating the situation, and hopefully we may see some cash back...

Other comments: Restuarant OK (but poor choice of wine, food middling); staff helpfull and friendly; gym OK (but needs updating), pool and hot-tub OK; location good for the airport, but hopeless for peace and quiet; parking free.

So, the Radisson is OK-ish. We wouldn't stay there again, but I can't really say the hotel is awful.

We were very pleased with our stay here over the Thanksgiving holiday. The place seemed deserted, so it was very quiet all day long. Being next to an airport, however, was sometimes noisy. It has easy access to nearby freeways, and there were a few good restaurants nearby.

Our room was very nice and clean. The beds were a bit uncomfortable, but I read that some rooms do come with the "sleep-number" beds...clearly ours didn't. Also, the front desk people were very nice and helpful when we requested a change of rooms. Overall, it was a good experience and should I need a hotel in this area again, I'll be staying here.
