I am not sure why HIlton Newark/Fremont is located where it is located (by weird restuarants and car dealerships). I also do not know why they have not moved forward on doing this renovations to a doubleday hotel. It is needed immediately, not next year.
Here is my experience:
When I first arrived I went to the front desk and was greeted with politeness. The lady at the desk could not tell me how much money would be held on my debit card and could not provide me an exact amount for the incidental hold. I travel on a tight budget so that was not okay. It was also the first time I ever heard that they couldnt provide me a with a total. It turned out to be like $148 for my 5 night stay? Usually, its either $50/night or $50/stay. EIther way, thats money held up, that I cannot access, and will not use for incidentals. Total bs.
On a positive note, they did note my special request I entered online and gave me the highest floor for the garden/balcony area. I was on the third floor. I overlooked the pathyways below, and that was most pleasant. The hotel has tons of potential, its just outdated. After the front desk gave me breakfast card vouchers, and my room keys I got back in my car and drove down the parking lot to my building area at the back of the property. There is a separate access area there that can be acccessed via your room card key.
The breakfast I received with my room rate, was quite yummy. It was a buffet. The front desk gives you little cards to take down at breakfast (watch the dates written on them!) and you give the card to the attendant at the end of your meal with a tip.The waiters serve you drink and you get food yourself, buffet style. They had bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, croissants, fresh fruit, pancakes or french toast, and an omlette station.
My room was a king balcony, and I did not feel like it met certain Hilton qualities. There were stains everywhere - on the floor, on the chair and on the ottoman. The bed was horrific! It dipped down on one side, and was not a full King. I have a full king at home, and this bed felt like a queen. I almost rolled off the bed twice during my week stay because it dipped down so badly on one side, which is pretty terrifying when you are sleeping.
The air conditioner worked nicely, it has its own panel and comes out of a vent near the ceiling.
There was no refridgerator or bar/sink area outside of the bathroom.
The bathroom was the size of a closet, when you walk in BAM, right there is the toilet. My bathroom did come equipped with a vanity mirror which is a nice. The shower head was so low! I am 5'9" and I had to either bend my knees or move the shower head at a weird angle to shower properly.
My balcony had two chairs and a nice view. I very much enjoyed my location in the hotel. It was quiet and relaxing. However, walking through the long corridors to go to breakfast i noticed a bad smell - like wet dog? in the hallway by the rooms with a pool view. Wasnt sure what that was about, but it was nasty.
I also had to use the business center and that was a freakin nightmare. The computers were not printing, and they charge you a ton just to log on (99cents a minute on your laptop) and 50 cents to print from their computer in black and white, per page. I was trying to work on a deadline, and that whole thing was unacceptable. I had to find a way to get information out of software on my laptop to print on their front desk computers, which ended up with me trying to do some crazy things, so inconveinient!!!
Overall...i do not think I would stay here again. My co-worker stayed in the Hilton Homewood suites down the street, and it was SUPER NICE. I ended up taking my information to print over there, and it was FREE and it was so SIMPLE. The inside was nice and quaint, but her room had a whole fridge and stove and living area for the same price!
Hilton, this is the third property of yours I have stayed at and have been dissapointed. I do not know why I keep staying with you, and let myself be dissapointed. Stop having nasty, stained rooms, its unacceptable!
Higher level garden was quiet.
