We had a great time in the bay area and outlying suburbs visiting friends and seeing the sights and it was very comforting to come home to our suite with a full kitchen, full sized fridge, living room and heated outdoor pool! The room was spacious and family friendly, staff was very nice and the complimentary breakfast was very budget helping! I especially liked the oatmeal and waffles! We swam in the pool with our young son and had a nice break from our driving and sightseeing......we used the large freezer to store bags of ice for our trip home with a cooler full of fresh vegis and fruit from the nearby perry organic farm......the best tomatoes ever! Parking was secure and well lit, we just wish they had more entrance/elevator corridors, our room was at the far flung end from the one elevator location.....so it seemed like we were tracking pool drippings throughout the halls....and we would prefer a king bed but the whole chain is queen....but we will definitely stay again and request a more convenient room location again!

  • Liked — spacious room/suite
  • Disliked — elevator location is not central to the majority of rooms

I have been to the Residence Inn over 10 times in the past 4 years on my business trips to Fremont. The Residence Inn in Newark has not changed over this time, the bed and the rooms are exactly the same as they used to be. The main reason for me to choose this hotel over all other hotels is the proximity of the supermarket (2 minutes on foot) and of various restaurants.
The hotel does offer an evening meal every night to its guests, I have never used this service so far. Breakfast is okay, but always the same with a choice of scrambled eggs, potatoes, burgers, bread, jam, coffee, tea etc. Nothing to get very excited about, but perfectly adequate for a stay which is only a few days.

This is a FABULOUS place for extended stays. You are close to San Jose, Palo Alto (Stanford), and many other areas. You are within walking distance from multiple groceries and restaurants/coffee shops, etc., if you want to prepare meals in the kitchenette in your room. The room was one of the cleanest I've ever had and it was incredibly quiet. The breakfast included hot entrees and a nice variety. Additionally, in the summer there are social activities (with more free food) in the evening. The staff were very helpful.

We recently stayed three nights at this hotel for my nephews graduation. There were a few problems upon check in the sofa bed mattress looked like it had urine stains, there was granola bar crumbs under the mattress, and a cup under the sofa bed. I reported it to the front desk staff which was curteous and appologetic. Within 15 minutes they changed the mattress, cleaned up the granola bar crumbs, removed the glass and even made the bed up. The window cable was broken which didn't allow the window to stay open I reported that as well and maintenance came out to look at it. He didn't have any parts to fix it and said we could use the stick to keep the window open. No big deal. I agree with the other reviewers that the mattresses are too soft unless you like that type of bed...but I don't...bad back. The fire alarm went off at 5:00 am forcing us out of the hotel because of the loud sounds...apparently a practical joke by some teens staying in the hotel. Other than that the hotel was very clean, the staff was just fantastic, the breakfast area was very well stocked and the staff in the breakfast area were just so nice. The pool area was great, but they need to stock more towels. I would stay here again.

  • Liked — The curteous staff, great free breakfast and clean grounds
  • Disliked — The Hotel is non smoking, but people smoked in the courtyard and the smoke comes right in the windows of your room.

We recently stayed two nights late week at the Residence Inn and we were very pleased with everything about our stay, especially the $84 a night rate! We chose the smallest studio available for our family of three, and it turned out to be very spacious, attractive and clean. The bed was comfortable, and the sofa bed was perfectly adequate and comfortable for our three year old son. We loved having the full kitchen (including fridge with freezer), although we took advantage of the hot breakfast they served every morning. It was yet another pleasant bonus. The do-it-yourself Belgian waffles were terrific (and popular! There was a line of people waiting for them both mornings...), and the pancakes, french toast, eggs, fresh fruit, sausage, assorted juices and milks, cereals and pastries were far superior to what we were expecting for a free breakfast. We didn't take advantage of the evening meal, but it did smell nice as we were passing through the lobby. Another thing we really appreciated about this property is that each wing has multiple entrances, so you don't have to go all the way out through the lobby each time you come and go. The only complaint we had is that on our second night there a very noisy family checked into the room next to ours around 2 a.m. We we were able to hear their conversions quite clearly, so the walls of the rooms are on the thin side. This is primarily a business hotel, and the rates are more than double what we paid during the first three days of the week. We stayed on a Thurs and Fri night, and we noticed many other families taking advantage of the drop in rates for the weekend. It is definitely family-friendly and has a beautiful pool and tennis court, even a dog-run! Marriott has thought of everything. We were so impressed that we will absolutely search for Residence Inns first when we are planning our weekend get-aways.
