“Great Place to Stay!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

In February we stayed here for our 42nd anniversary of our first date. It is the second time we have stayed here. Both times were really great!! It is the only B&B we have ever been to that has a chef prepare the breakfast and is wonderful!! The grounds are quite beautiful.

I recently had the opportunity to stay at the historic Red Castle Inn in Nevada City, CA.
If one wishes to experience a tasteful step back in time to the Gold Rush era of California history, and in a significant historical surrounding, then this is the place. This meticulously restored and furnished Carpenter's Gothic building enhances one's experience while there. And the owner/proprietors, Conley and Mary Louise Weaver, certainly provide a welcoming and comfortable B and B experience without being intrusive into one's own travel plans. They also provide very tasty breakfasts and afternoon teas. for ones pleasure. If one wants a change of pace from modern hotels, with a touch of history thrown in, then I highly recommend a visit to the Red Castle Inn (It does have modern amenities!) in Nevada City, CA. If possible, allow several days, so that there is time to explore the area, for it is an interesting area with much to see.

My wife and I went for three nights to celebrate her 65th birthday and to enjoy the holidays in Nevada City and Grass Valley. We were welcomed by Conley and stayed in the Forest View Room. My wife loved the tub and bed and the fireplace. We could walk down to Broad Street and get a little exercise taking the long steps home. Mary Louise welcomed us in the afternoons and the Christmas decorations were delightful. The price is a very fair value and everything was in good working order for a very old house. We can't say enough about the breakfast and the chef. We are vegetarian and they were most accommodating. We will return. Bob and Holly from Carmichael CA

Room Tip: Each room is unique and in the period of the 1860"s.

We accidently discovered a real jewel of an Inn, in Nevada City, California this past Thanksgiving. We waited until the last minute to book a reservation and couldn’t get a room at our usual places near the center of town, but did get a room at the “invisible” Red Castle Inn, just a short walk to downtown Nevada City from the top of a hill. This is a lovely brick house built in 1863 that is filled with antique furniture, a wonderful library of local and regional historical books and magazines, run by the most pleasant couple, long- time residents Mary Louise and Conley Weaver. The most unique aspect of this Inn besides the feather beds, is the morning Breakfast. Every morning we were treated to the most wonderful five course gourmet breakfast consisting of the most delicious creations we have ever eaten for breakfast. Every morning a different breakfast was prepared by a chef (graduate of culinary school), or Mary Louise. We enjoyed breakfast dishes such as individual soufflés, Potato Dauphine, hominy with bacon and onions, strudel and many more treats. We ate in the parlor that was set up in authentic Victorian style. Fred loves French toast, but the Baked Peach French toast creation of Mary Louise was simply out of this world and the best Fred had ever eaten. The breakfast was so exquisite that we invited family members from town to join us for breakfast on our last morning. We found the Red Castle Inn’s gardens to be very pleasant and were surprised at how easy it was to walk down the stairway into town. If you want a very unique experience in a picturesque old mining city in California gold country, you won’t be disappointed by visiting the Nevada City Red Castle Inn.

Gail Glick and Fred Dorey, Los Angeles California.

Room Tip: Entry level is best. Some rooms are larger.

On a recent trip to beautiful and historic Nevada City, California, my husband and I had the pleausre of staying once again at our favorite B&B...Red Castle Historic Lodgings. We were warmly and graciously greeted by the innkeepers, Conley and Mary Louise Weaver, then shown to our lovely, Victorian era, treasure-filled room. Since our last visit, the inn now offers convenient WiFi access which came in handy to check weather reports for our continuing trip north to Oregon. An important part of any B&B stay is breakfast and the Red Castle doesn't disappoint! Our breakfast included several sumptuous, sweet and savory delights prepared in their on premise kitchen. The preparation and presentation far surpasses any B&B fare we have previously experienced. We would highly recommend the Red Castle for a special celebration and/or relaxing getaway.

Room Tip: We have a favorite...Garden Room. On previous occasions, we have stayed in Gold Room, Rose Room and...

It’s a magical time to sit down and chat with the former Mayor of Nevada City, CA and his delightful designer wife Mary Louise in their Victorian parlor. Coffee at 7:39 am, followed by a remarkable array of innovative hot and cold dishes (http://www.redcastleinn.com/Recipes.htm) to fortify you for exploring the town, the nearby Empire mine, or other Gold Country attractions before tea (http://www.redcastleinn.com/teatime.htm). Each room (http://www.redcastleinn.com/rooms.htm) is masterfully and comfortably done, whether you select one with a view to the surrounding forest grounds and path down to town, or the highest Garret Suite and its commanding view of Nevada City. You can also comfortably abandon ambition and read all day in the parlor or your room. Their “electric fires” provide both warmth and ambiance. The parlor coffee table is piled high with historical and architectural books on the Gold Country, San Francisco, Oakland and the Greater Bay Area. Both Mary Louise and Conley are themselves a wealth of stories and factual details. Their restaurant suggestions are always spot on. We’ve returned many times to experience the Red Castle’s welcoming and historic atmosphere. A friend joined us for his first visit this year, and found two days was not enough! Whether you go for Fall color, their Thanksgiving/pre-Holiday events, or Spring blossoms, staying with the gracious hosts at the Red Castle is a trip you’ll want to repeat.

Room Tip: Rose room and Forest View are two of our favorities rooms

We stayed 2 nights in the Forest View room at the Red Castle on a romantic weekend getaway. The accommodations were comfortable yet have a feel of being authentically historic. The breakfast food was very good. The chef even accommodated some dietary limitations we had. The owners of the Inn were pleasant but non intrusive. The inn is located in a quiet neighborhood within walking distance of the main street in Nevada City. It is entirely possible to park your car in their dedicated parking area and leave it there for the entire stay. We would definitely stay at the Red Castle again.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Forest Room which had its own private entrance, but we looked at the Garden Room an...
