The Broad Street Inn is perfectly located in a tree filled neighborhood just a few blocks beyond the beginning of downtown Nevada City, with its wonderful shops and restaurants, making good food, shopping and entertainment all within easy walking distance. The beautiful Yuba River is a short drive away and there are wonderful trails throughout the area, one beginning right in town a short walk from the Inn. We were there for five nights and felt at home the whole time in the many spaces this cozy yet beautifully appointed inn offers. Our room #3, like the others there, had walls painted a deep, rich, quieting tone. Ours was a deep poppy orange, and the carefully chosen artwork reflected the poppy theme. The furnishings were a mix of functional modern and older attractive pieces, and the room was spacious and open, with a dresser in the large closet that held all our things and got our bags out of the way. There are hangers made from reused doorknobs on the the wall to hold whatever they need to and reading lights mounted to the headboards for each side of the bed. The second floor back sunporch has a tea and coffee machine, an urn of freshly brewed coffee, and filtered water dispenser plus all the utensils and tableware you might need to eat carryout comfortably. There are also a table and stools facing out onto the beautifully landscaped backyard. The tall shade trees all around the place and the grassy area and back patio made for pleasant sitting and reading or chatting with other guests at any time. The front porch was the social gathering spot for an early morning cup of coffee. The owners are warm and friendly and have obviously put their hearts and souls into the Inn. It is impeccably maintained and spotless, although in constant use. There is a resident dachshund named Dot and cat named Rue. Both are companionable but definitely have lives of their own. Rue, however, is not beyond showering with a willing cat-friendly guest upon request.
