“The best part was outdoor dining”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2014

We drove down to Nevada City to have dinner with family. We love Thai and the recommendations from tripadvisor #6 of 46 we figured it must be great!
The outdoor seating is wonderful, so atmosphere gets 5 stars...from there just average Thai. The service was poor, we were asked at door if we had reservations...we had called an hour earlier before the drive and told to just come on in when we get there. They managed to have a table for us. Once seated we were ignored for awhile and than when waiter did make it over seemed rushed and irritated to answer questions. After food arrived no one came back around until time for the check...
Enough said, no reason for us to go back when we're in the area.

“Great Asian Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2014

My wife & I ate at Sopa last night, and had a wonderful meal & nice outdoor setting. I had the Pra Ram dish with mixed seafood in a peanut sauce with rice. My wife had a Curry dish with scallops that was to die for. Great service also - we'll be back....

“Good food and service, pleasant atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2014

Most thai restaurants I've been to are pretty spartan in appearance. Sopa is very nicely done up, with obvious attention paid to every detail. There are two dining rooms and a beautiful patio out back where you can dine under a huge tree. It's delightful in the summer.

I've not been to Thailand, so I don't know how authentic the menu is, but it's certainly good and well-prepared. There are offerings for every taste, and everything I've had here has been tasty and nicely seasoned.

Wine and beer are available.

Service is pleasant and unhurried.

People who equate Asian food with the dismal Chinese some of us grew up with, with indifferent decor and blah food, will be pleasantly surprised. Sopa Thai is nice enough for special occasions, but priced for people on a budget.

“Hidden Treasure”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2014

This small restaurant was introduced by friends who live in Penn Valley. The owner and their servers are patient and knowledgeable about the choices that are available. The food is available in the usual degrees of spice. If the weather is conducive, ask for outdoor seating on the back patio. There is also an elevated section overlooking a thematic flume of water to enhance the pleasant surroundings. The food was well-prepared to specifications and the variety of choices should accommodate any discriminating tastes.
