“Top class burger and service.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

The burgers were cooked to perfection and as requested. The fries were crisp and freshly cooked. The setting, overlooking the creek out on the deck is attractive and the creek itself cooling and relaxing. Our server (Lolly) was helpful and efficient.Overall a great meal.

“tasty food, drinks & great service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

The staff was very friendly and helpful on choosing food & pairing beers. The bar has TV's so you can watch events that are playing on them. We had a very relaxing & enjoyable evening dining at Lefty's. The costs of food/drinks are affordable. We will go back when visiting Nevada City next time.

“Run away from the gluten free food”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

My wife and I just had lunch there and she ordered a gluten free bun for her hamburger. First they served it with a regular hamburger bun (not gluten free) so we sent it back to have it make from scratch. People with allergies will know that any allergy contamination will make you sick.

They brought it back with a gluten free bun with the same meat patty on the same plate that was contaminated..This restaurant promotes they know what to do with people who have celiac allegories but they don't.

I eaten there for many years and spent a lot of money but no more. The chef/owner didn't have the guts to apologize for this mistake. (We saw you) We'll let other people know what a mistake it was to go and have food there. They were too cheap to make to make the food again for the prices we pay.

We are so sorry we let you down. Our wait staff tries really hard to get everything right, and we know sometimes they miss a detail. When things are misunderstood, the waiters have a choice of trying to correct the order or re-submitting it to the chef....this is not cost driven, but rather about how we can best and most quickly satisfy the customer. It sounds to me like they were wanting to get you the meal pronto and did not realize the critical nature of the allergy involved. Please consider asking specifically for a new meal at any restaurant where this might happen--this will alert the server that this is not an option, but a truly serious allergy. (Right now lots of folks are experimenting with gluten free diets) Again--we are really sorry and appreciate the time you have taken to let us know. We hope you will give us a chance to serve you again.

“Has potential...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

Lefty's has the location, the view, and the potential to be a great venue! Unfortunately, Our visit fell short of our hopes. A multi-level restaurant, Lefty's has indoor/outdoor dining on two levels: the upstairs lounge area (with adjoining deck) and the downstairs restaurant area, with a larger deck. Both overlook the creek, which was a pleasure. The proximity of the water kept the air cool, even on what was a steamy evening.

We waited a fair amount of time to be seated, despite some empty tables, but were rewarded with a seat right beside the rail overlooking the water. We ordered a couple of beers and a soda water to start (while perusing the menu). The beer took far longer to arrive than it should have, and the soda water took even longer...that arrived more than half way through dinner. Ouch.

We decided on a dinner salad each, and then a split entree; A Rib Eye with Red Wine Caramelized Onions & Gorgonzola Cheese, served with Scalloped Potatoes and Roasted Veggies. It was well over 40 minutes (or more) before our salads arrived. Another ouch. The salads were fresh & crisp, and the house Herb Vin Dressing was tasty. A good thing we ordered small salads, as they were large, even so.

Our Rib Eye arrived, and despite a $2.00 charge for the split plate, the meal was served on one plate, with one steak knife. The staff member who delivered it offered me a bread plate, saying "will this be ok?". Well....ouch, again. We simply said yes, and asked for a second steak knife.

The Rib Eye was flavorful, but very fatty, the onions were delicious, and the Gorgonzola almost nonexistent. The Scalloped Potatoes were also tasty, but barely lukewarm. The roasted veggies, a combination of Carrots and Green Beans had a nice bit of char on them, but were both somewhat undercooked. Good thing I like my veggies crunchy! We ate them all.

We noticed that most other tables were served Rolls and Butter; we were not. We also noted that while the staff seemed to be moving at a frantic pace, things still happened quite slowly. We witnessed more than one wrong order delivered to nearby tables as we waited.

Here is hoping that Lefty's works out some of these problems, as the food overall was decent. Could have been better, especially for the prices, but loved the menu & the variety offered. Execution seems to be the issue here...

“The Friday Fish and Chips still rock”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

I tried Lefty's fish and chips in February at the new location on the creek. Last Friday, we went again, and while I love their Sonoma pizza, I just had to try the fish. It is still outstanding. Even on on a steamy day, dining on the patio overlooking that mountain creek is just lovely. The coleslaw that comes with lunch is also very special, not an afterthought as in so many other restaurants. Servers are charming and there when you need them.
