“A gem in San Diego - great place to stay.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2010

San Diego is a city that you need to explore using a car - it is way too scattered and public transport does not seem very convenient and easy. Hence it does not make a big diff where you stay - you would still need a car to get to SeaWorld/ Zoo/ Torrey Pines and Coronado beaches/ etc. The hotel is located in National City, a close suburb of SD.
Hotel is relatively not expensive, very quiet, 100m away from convenient I-5 highway that would take you to all places of interest in 10-15 minutes. The pool and spa are great (and conveniently close at 11 pm!!). Hotel stuff are friendly and willing to help.
There is no breakfast but there there is a pretty good place right across the hotel entrance that is also nice for a couple of evening margaritas if you are back to hotel by 9-9.30 pm.

Overall an excellent choice to explore the area if you have a car.

Although this hotel is not located in the heart of the city, leans more towards the industrial section of town, the hotel modern look and amenities (pool, gym, & computer room) made our hotel stay well worth it. The hotel location is quiet and the room was very comfortable. Sorry, no breakfast is served at this location. The room didn't have a microwave oven, either. But for those that like "In N' Out", there's one located approx. 1/2 mile from this hotel. The staff was great! My family and I look foward to staying at this location again.

Felt comfortable and was a very pleasant stay. Service was nice, and the staff was good.
Just stayed for a night in 2 rooms, but it was well worth it. The area around it is not so nice, maybe because it is near the dock and a slightly run down kind of place, but the hotel itself was really good.

I felt so lucky to find this place on my last trip to San Diego - seriously it is a 4 star hotel with out the high price!!! The staff and room are both exceptional, the hotel was spotless and everything new. In fact the bed was just like home, one the most comfortable I have had on a trip. To me having a good bed when I tavel is important - as then I am ready for a long day of sight seeing. Another plus was in their business center (3 computers), it was great I never had to wait to use the computer - nor did I feel rush to get off so someone else could use it. I would stay here again and again - I Highly recommend this hotel! Don't think twice on this one, it is a winner!!! Thanks for a wonderful stay!

We chose this hotel after having to leave a so-called "resort" due to the uncleanliness. We we got here, it was such a relief to have such a clean and new room! Our room didn't have much of a view or beach access, like we originally wanted in a hotel, but we didn't care. Only 10 min from downtown San Diego, it was pleasantly nice for what one might expect at a Best Western. Buster's next door has some great happy hour deals!

My only complaints:
1. The air conditioner made a funny siren noise (not loud, but enough to annoy you) when it wasn't on (I thought cops were pulling people over left and right!)
2. We had our "Housekeeping please" sign on our doorknob one day from 10-6pm and no one came. A little disappointing, and of course it was the day when we had no washcloths and badly needed a shower! We just called front desk and they brought up some.

My family and I stayed at this hotel on it's opening weekend at a phenomenal rate, probably because it was a brand new hotel with no pictures and no reviews to be found. The location was excellent as we were 5 minutes away from Coronado (not including the 10 minutes you spend on the bridge no matter where you're coming from) where we spent 4th of July. Needless to say, the hotel was emmaculate - it was new!

However, not a minute after sitting down at the pool to watch the kids play, my husband and I felt like we were being eaten alive by invisible phirana's! After asking around, we found out that there was a swamp behind the hotel, so whatever insects that were hanging around in there were having a feast on us guests.

I wouldn't totally rule out staying there - especially for strictly business travel - but if WE return, it will have to be during the winter when litle critters find greener pastures.

We wanted to stay in the southbay area so we could be near our family and friends. We asked the front desk if we could see their rooms. We fell in love with what we saw and immediately reserved a room. Free wi-fi with great reception in the room. There's a wonderful view of the mountains and I-5 from the balcony, and a short walk to the National City marina. Buster's resaurant has an awesome Happy Hour (2-7 pm). Excellent accommodations and perfect weather (70-80 degrees). This hotel is very comfortable, emmaculate, modern, and the entire staff is friendly and professional. We give this hotel a 5-STAR rating without the snobby atmosphere.
