“Good Location, Some quirks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2008

I stayed here on a quick weekend get away on points. Overall the hotel matches out to the prior reviews, and was a pleasant stay. This hotel is a good example of a unique item found in the Embassy Suites chain that I have not run into elsewhere. It appears to have been single’s apartments converted into a hotel. (Arizona has several Embassies like this) This has some good & bad points, the good is the grounds as noted, but the room layout is rather strange with a full sink in the bedroom with a full bathroom right outside the bedroom. And overall I’ve found this type to always be in average shape with some parts really needing updating.

Furnishings were in good condition, but slightly dated and we have the brown shutter room so we got the one old, one new TV. And we had the strange dated bar/kitchen. Check in on a Saturday during the summer, expect delays getting your room as this place is busy. (Check in itself was quick) And get to breakfast early, it gets crowded by 9 AM but the staff in the kitchen is one of the fastest short order kitchens I’ve ever seen. We had a room facing one of the parking lots so noise wasn’t a problem, and overall the guests were pretty quiet when using the many outside areas for relaxing.

But to get around the area & to get to dinner, it was great. For dinner, highly suggest Julia’s Kitchen at COPIA, we got a last minute table easily and it was much more of a local’s place without the HWY 29 crowd driving up the prices & the noise. Talking to the guys at Conn Creek, it was one of their fave’s as well for a nice dinner.

if you can handle freeway noise in one ear all night, and the breakfast staff setting up at 4am in the other ear, then stay here.
My fiancee and hardly slept at all and actually left the bed at 2am to sleep in the pull out sleeper in the dining room, only to be awakened soon after by the breakfast staff stacking and crashing plates and silverware at 4:00am!!! If you do decide on the risk, get a room OUT of the breakfast area and AWAY from the freeway. Other than the active and nicely decorated courtyard, this place isn't worth it for the price.

  • Disliked — noise, long wait in line for breakfast.

We have stayed at many Embassy Suites and this one is very unique in it's design. The grounds are beautiful but much smaller than pictured. The mill wheel pictured does not move and is caged and covered in pigeon poo. The staff is wonderful, very friendly. Our biggest complaint was the noise. Do not book a room that is on the side against the freeway unless you are use to city noise. Rush hour starts around 4 a.m. and doesn't quit until after 9 p.m. They were also doing some light remodeling during our stay. Which we were not informed of until the night before. We received a note under our door informing us maintance would be entering our room between 10 a.m and 3 p.m. Luckly, we checked out before they arrived. Next time we go to Napa we will stay at a different Embassy Suites.

I visited Napa Valley with my wife and another couple August 6th through the 9th. We were underwhelmed with the Embassy Suites.

The location is OK. It's within a mile drive to downtown Napa and very convenient to wine country (i.e. close to 29 and Silverado Trail).

The grounds are nice, but not spectacular. The small pond, frequently patroled by live-in black and white swans, is a nice feature. The pool is small and crowded. The atrium appears circa 1975, with outdated carpet and furnishings. Same with the rooms. The living room furniture must've come from the rent-to-own-collection - similar to what one may see in a "Roseanne" rerun or a trailor park in Arkansas. We were not impressed. The room felt dark, musty, and cold.

The breakfasts were good - we really enjoyed the made-to-order omelettes and french toast. The afternoon snacks and wine were pretty nasty - not what you'd expect for $300/night close to wine country. More of what you'd expect on a red eye flight. The wine wasn't really drinkable.

The customer service was laughable. The front desk is staffed with teenagers - way too cool for school. If you're a HiltonHonors member (I'm a diamond), do not expect to get any preferential treatment. Everyone is treated with the same level of mediocre, sometimes condescending, customer service.

I'm very disappointed with Hilton and this property.

  • Disliked — Teenage punks working the front desk.

Stayed at the Embassy Suites 17th to 22nd August 2008, we loved the place. The suites were imaculate and spacious.
The grounds were lovely and very well kept, excellent pool and well tended sun loungers and towels provided.
The breakfast had a great selection and cooked to order although sometimes busy there was always plenty and you never felt rushed even at half past nine (this is when it finished Monday- Friday).
The managers bar was from 5.30 till 7.30 and offered good quality wines from the local area along with various other refreshments. The staff were also very helpful especially Mike who delivered excellent advice regarding the local area.
Lots of lovely restaurants in downtown Napa, Coles Chop House and its sister restaurant Celadon (at the top end) and also Alegria in the old bank building is excellent. For a more laid back informal dinner, you should try Downtown Joe's and Tuscany is also worth mentioning.
Further afield Via Sutti Winery and Deli is well worth a visit around lunchtime and dont miss Mondavi and Beringer winery tours which are both excellent.

  • Liked — The rooms, breakfast and managers bar
  • Disliked — Nothing

I do not see what the big deal about this place is. After reading the reviews here I thought it would be better than the average Embassy Suites--it is not!

The hotel's web site says all suites are full renovated. Well I guess that depends on what you call fully renovated. By looking at the exterior of the rooms from the balcony it appears that there are two distinct room sets at this location. The rooms that had dark wood shutters fronting the balconies appeared to have LCD tv’s in the front living space besides a rather 3rd rate lcd tv in the bedrooms. The rooms that had beige shutters had lcd tv’s in the bedrooms but older crt models in the living space.

As for my room it did have what appeared to be a newer couch, and chairs but the rest of place looked run down. The vanity had a big crack running through it. The kitchen (or whatever you want to call it) had a 1990's vintage microwave and mini frig. None of the phones in the room worked.

Aside from the conditon of the interior of the room we had one other issue: The front door of the first suite we were given had an almost 1 " gap between the door and door frame at the bottom of the door. Seeing as the front door was an exterior (picture old 1960's Holiday Inn style) door --this is not good. Besides letting in light just about any bug you could name could have come in the room and this is exactly what happened. We noticed this and were given another suite--which I noticed was only slighly better with a 1/4" gap at the bottom of the door.

If you need to do any work forget it unless your laptop battery is fully charged. There were no desks, just a table in the front room, but with no available plugs to use at the table.

Bottom line—nothing special here at all. Just a run of the mill Embassy Suites property with slighly above average grounds.

We stayed here 3 nights after spending a week camping in the mountains, so we were thrilled to be in a room with a shower! The room was clean and functional. A little on the small side, but we didn't feel cramped. Our only complaint would be our room location (room #146) because it was too close to elevator and kitchen. The hotel couldn't change the room on check-in due to being overbooked, but they offered to try to change the next day. We didn't go back to try for a change because we didn't want to deal with the move. We enjoyed the breakfast and the beverage/snack time. We swam in the indoor pool because that's where the jacuzzi was. The sauna room helped my daughter clear up the remains of her chest cold. The hotel recoomended the Platypus Winery Tour which we enjoyed. Overall we were pleased with the value of the hotel in such an expensive area.
