“Only negative is location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

The rooms, service, food and facilities at the Meritage were all exceptional. We had a balcony with a great view overlooking the pool and tasting area.Service by front desk, concierge, waitresses and cleaning staff was excellent. We asked for 2 items from the front desk during our stay and both were delivered promptly with a follow up phone call to ensure we had received it. The only issue is you are about a 15 minute shuttle ride to downtown Napa and we needed to plan dinners and town trips around this schedule as nobody was driving after a full day of wine-tasting.

Thank you for a wonderful review! We are pleased to hear how much you enjoyed your stay. We apologize if our location was not to your liking. Once you enter the resort there are so many things to do so we don't even notice it! We hope that you'll give us another chance to experience what else is going on in Napa! We have a complimentary shuttle to downtown so you won't even notice where you are. We look forward to your return, and hope to see you again soon!

We arrived at 3:30 to learn they didn't have a room ready for us. Check in was 4pm. They gave us a key to the pool at least. We were told they would call my cell phone but at 4:15 we returned to the desk to hear the clerk say "you mean they didn't call you?, yes your room is ready. Since we had 5:30 reservations in Yountville (25 min drive from hotel) we were very annoyed as two of us still had to shower and get ready in 45 minutes. Luckily we moved fast.

Paid for a Courtyard view but mostly we saw the parking lot with partial view of Courtyard. I don't think this hotel should cost $300 per night as I have stayed at nicer hotels for less but this price seems consistent with other properties in the area. I guess this area can get that amount.

In the end the service was very good and they even jumped our car battery very quickly which was unexpended problem we had (not the hotel's fault of course).

Pool area is very nice, and they have a wine cave so you can do a tasting in your free time. The pool closes at 10pm though so if you are expecteding to enjoy a late night swim after a long day of wine and good food, you have to jump the fence.

Room Tip: Didn't think the Courtyard view was worth the cost but the balcony was nice to have. Ask for a r...

This hotel is just perfect in every aspect - reception, dining, quality of room, facilities, service and it even has a vineyard with good choice of wine.

Just one thing to improve - I asked for water and a shaver twice by phone, and I only got water 1 hour later. But this doesn't stop the stay from being a great expereiene overall.

The Meritage resort and spa had very nice accommodations and their staff was excellent. The restaurants on the grounds and their tasting room were excellent and reasonably priced. They also offer a free shuttle into downtown Napa ever 45 minutes starting at 4pm. I would have given them a five overall but they were not great at keeping the pool area clean and fully stocked with towels. It was a minor flaw but worth mentioning. I would stay there again.

We had such a great time we plan on going back very soon. Highly recommend the spa and restaurants. The adult bowling alley looks so fun; it was so popular it was booked the entire weekend. Loved every minute of our getaway. Thank you!

My husband and I are Mexican and we went to Napa on vacation. We stayed at the Meritage on May, 2013. The hotel itself is beautiful and confortable; unfortunately, we had a couple of issues:

1. The day we were leaving, we needed assistance from the concierge to help us rent a car and to give us advice as to where to go for a guided visit to a winery. There were two concierges available, first we went to the lady, who was too busy to help us rent the car. After waiting in line for another 30 minutes at least, we went to an african-american man with green eyes, who seemed to be in a bad mood and showed absolutely no desire to help us with the guided visit to the winery. He adviced us to go to a winery in which no appointment was needed, according to him.
We managed to rent the car from our mexican cell phones, finding it to be a rather difficult task, and went to the winery the man had suggested. After a long drive, we arrived and found that they only do guided visits by appoinment. Terrible service from the coincierges.

2. When we wrrived home, we noticed a charge in our credit card from the Meritage that was not supposed to be there. After a long distance call it seemed to be settled, but we did not appreciate the incorrect charge at all.

Honestly we would not return to the Meritage.

Just finished a 3-day business conference at the Meritage Resort and Spa and after it was all said and done…this place was the perfect place to host a small corporate or incentive group meeting. From its facilities to its location in Napa, by far it is the best hotelier in that area for business events.

Along with the meeting sessions were two dinners and a lunch event and during these events I observed the catering staff and kitchen were right on point, and the quality of the food was seriously good. 1 of the 2 dinners I mentioned was held in their ‘Estate Cave’. This venue exudes sophistication. So to really appreciate it, with the help of Elisse, the hotel’s Executive Meeting Manager, I designed a cocktail social with butler passed almost everything, followed by 4-courses paired with wine menu. Sounds basic, right? Here is what was impressive…the menu was simple – not meant to be pretentious. Something that everyone had before; however it was how the Executive Chef wanted his food to be interpreted. The way it looked you really felt the care…what you consumed you tasted the joy. How it was served…you felt you were important. Now, understanding the hospitality business it may not have been exactly that way in the back of the house – but out of the chaos there must have been some harmony because the food, drink and service was portrayed that way.

In regard to their meeting space inside the main building; the facility, lighting, temperature control, carpeting and a/v services were all more than adequate, and yet it lacked some attention to detail. The banquet chairs, although sturdy and comfortable, looked ridiculously poor and worn. Each day when I checked the set-up, their writing pads, pencils and water glasses lacked quality and needed to be changed out. I provided this feedback to their banquet manager who handled these concerns appropriately.

The hotel assigned me room #289, a premium double bed room on the corner of the 2nd floor. Having this corner room was not only convenient for an event planner having quick access to the hub of the hotel, but offered 2 large windows with unobstructed great views of the vineyard on one side and the pool area on the other. The only drawback was the HAVAC equipment was hidden in a closet inside my room, so it was loud when it switched on. I switched off the air conditioning during the night time hours and opened the windows as the evenings were cooler and perfect. This helped ease away the annoying sound. On a separate note…a few of the rooms in my group had problems with no hot water and rooms on the ground or 2nd floor in the main building lacked noise abatement – which is odd considering the entire property is only 8 years young.

My VIPs were offered a king patio room, which I think on a leisure trip is worth the upgrade from a standard room, and a few rooms were given the extended king with patio. This room type was on the 2nd floor of the main building that overlooked the entire pool area and unobstructed views of the vineyard. If it’s in your vacation budget or even for those honeymooners….the extended king with patio is the way to go.

There were a few members of my group that didn’t particularly appreciate the resort, for whatever reasons. But overall everyone including myself had a great experience. And I look forward to another opportunity to host a corporate meeting here. But until then I'll be sipping a chardonnay, relaxing underneath a cabana by the pool at Meritage on my next leisure trip into Napa.

Room Tip: Corner rooms which don't have a balcony still offer better views. Upgrade to a King Patio room i...
