“Romantic, beautiful and delicious!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2012

Our couples vacation to wine country was an amazing experience made possible by the Meritage Resort and Spa. When we arrived we were greeted by a delicious bottle of wine when we walked into our beautiful room. The staff was excellent, very helpful and accommodating throughout our entire stay. The front desk staff helped us coordinate a driver for one of the days and made wonderful winery and restaurant suggestions. The resort offered a variety of amenities to meet everyone's needs. After a day filled with wineries, we came back to the resort and spent our nights curled up around a cozy, outdoor fire. One night, we even made our way over to the Crush Ultra Lounge, where we spent the evening bowling, laughing, and enjoying each others company. The resort's vineyard,Trinitas, was beautiful and delicious. It ended up being a beautiful spot for our friend to propose to his now, fiance. We couldn't have asked for a better ending to our already amazing trip. I highly recommend this resort for couples of all ages. Thank you, Meritage Resort and Spa!

First of all, I would like to send a special thank you to the GM - Michael Palmer for an absolutely amazing experience at the Meritage Resort and Spa. You made the visit truly amazing and a memorable one for us...

Day 1: After a long day of riding bikes and wine tastings nearby with friends and my soon to be fiancé, we arrived at the resort late in the afternoon. Right off the bat, the resort staff was beyond exceptional. The check-in was fast and simple. Right after we checked-in, there was another staff member waiting to escort us and our luggage to our room. Once we got into our rooms, we were not only amazed with how nice and spacious the room was, but the view as well. After we all freshened up from our long day of bike riding and wine tastings, we reconvened at the Crush Ultra Lounge (One of the many amenities at the resort). I found Crush to be a laid back, higher-end, sports bar-themed type atmosphere. We started off with a few cocktails, and after a few drinks, we hopped onto a lane and did some bowling. We were all terrible, but just had a blast. Once again, the staff's service there was simply outstanding - extremely welcoming and accommodating. We wrapped up the evening by relaxing next to a fire pit in the courtyard area and had an incredible night.

Day 2 (proposal day): The next morning, we enjoyed breakfast at Siena. You definitely have to try the Belgian waffle. Great food, great service, not much more to ask for at Siena... After breakfast, we took a wine tasting tour - through a limo service that was highly recommended by the Meritage. The driver was spectacular; he knew exactly what wineries to take us to and actually gave us a tour at one of them. Another upside to this resort is the location. There are countless wineries within a 20-30 mile radius, just wish we had more time... After we got back from the wine tastings, it was time for the big moment. I had worked with the GM - Michael Palmer to set-up a time to propose to my girlfriend. I thought what better place to do it than the Hillside Vineyard Gazebo. I got my girlfriend to think we were going to take some photos in the gazebo, and surprised her by dropping to one knee. While we were coming down from the gazebo to go celebrate at Trinitas Cellars Wine Tasting room, to our surprise Michael had gotten a professional photographer to take pictures of our big moment. After we took pictures we headed into the wine tasting room to celebrate and had an amazing time (I've attached a couple photos). The staff member that poured for us, I think he went by 'Huge Mike', was very knowledgeable, had great suggestions, and was an extremely nice guy. We spent the rest of the night by going out to eat at Tarla, a Mediterranean restaurant nearby the resort. They had fabulous food there and highly recommend it.

All-in-all, it was wonderful experience, beyond expectations. Thank you to Michael Palmer and the whole Meritage staff, we cannot wait to make it out again!

P.S. - Also, thank you to the Florida couple that sent champagne to our room after our engagement. If you are reading, it was great getting to meet you!

Room Tip: Newer buidling rooms are excellent. Suggest a room with balcony overlooking vineyard.

We went to The Meritage Resort 2 weeks ago and all had a wonderful time. The location was beautiful overlooking their vineyards. The room we stayed in, the stone everywhere, the lighting and lounge areas make you feel like you're on the get-away of a lifetime. The staff is friendly, very helpful and attentive. My boyfriend actually proposed to me here- and it was the perfect place for it. I would love to come back as soon as possible!

We had a wonderful stay at the Meritage, Once you enter the hotel you are immediately at ease! Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Room service, when necessary, was spot on! Manny was wonderful and service was quick. Soup arrived piping hot!
Overall, exceptional experience!

Room Tip: We were in the newer wing. Wonderful, and very quiet!

During my stay, I was completely dissatisfied and very unhappy. These are the issues that we encountered:

Dining:
On our first night, we ate at Sienna for dinner. The service was incredibly slow and sloppy. The seafood risotto was overcooked and had the consistency of glue. The excuse that was that the restaurant was understaffed and unexpectantly busy. With two conferences and an event at the hotel, it is an unacceptable response.
On our day of departure, we stopped in at The Blend for coffee and a breakfast snack. There was only one person behind the counter and service was unacceptably slow. We waited 10 minutes in line and then another 12 minutes to get our food. On our way out, there was a line that was 10 people deep. On a big travel day, there is no excuse for under-staffing a coffee shop.

The Concierge Service:
Earlier in the week, I had pre-booked a taxi-cab with someone to take us to Sunce winery in Santa Rosa on Saturday afternoon. She quoted me a price of $100 one way. When we got into the cab, we were quoted $225 on way. This was very upsetting to me. We could have reserved a private car and driver for $350, but because of "Crush" week, there were no other cars available. Thankfully, we had a rental car available to us that we could use. I was told a Concierge supervisor would contact me, and thus far, no one has called me to discuss this matter.
On Friday night, the concierge failed to cancel our dinner reservation at Ad hoc as promised, and my OpenTable account was marked for it.

Housekeeping:
On Saturday, the coffee machine was left dirty.
Our dirty wine glasses were left in the room and were not replaced by clean glasses.
Some of our supplies were not replaced, i.e. q-tips.

These missteps in concierge service, dining, and housekeeping are highly disappointing to me. The theme throughout the weekend was “we didn’t realize it would be this busy”.

With all the luxurious options availabe in Napa/Yountville, we will not be staying again.

I sent an email and made a phone call to the front desk manager and have not been contacted.

Anniversary weekend in a great area of the US. Wine tastings at the home vineyard started our weekend off just right. Many Local dinner spots or even eating at the resort is to your preference. The staff couldn't be nicer from the front desk to the wait staff to the spa staff. By the way, the spa is a must do! I like driving my own vehicle but they have shuttle service into the town of Napa at no charge.

We"ll be back!

Room Tip: I would get a balcony facing the vineyard.....we faced the pool which was nice but no balcony.

It took forever to get checked in! The bed was hard. We found an open bottle of wine in our refridgerater and someone had used our bathroom. We were very disappointed in our visit to the tasting room, as we were not greeted or attended to even though there was only one other couple there. We left angry. We had a good experience in the Spa, however.
