“Not Bad, But Not Excellent”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

I was hoping this place would be more than what it sounded like....a time-share resort. We checked in and assigned a room in the main building. We walked into the room and it smelled awful. My wife and I opened the windows and tried to air out the place a bit but we started to get a headache from the smell. I don't like to be the guy who complains, but I wanted someone to come up and check out the smell. We spoke to someone at the desk who offered us another room and he personally delivered the room keys to us. He confirmed that the room smelled pretty bad and upon further inspection (with a hotel engineer), we discovered the refrigerator had a leak and there was probably mildew building up under the carpet.

Anyways, all was good with the new room. We were sent to a room in one of the newer buildings. It was much nicer...bigger bathrooms and very clean!

We went down to the concierge to get our "welcome kit" - - which consisted of a map of all the Napa wineries. It was helpful, but I wasn't amused at the fact that they were trying to sign us up for a "vacation presentation" AKA TIME SHARE ALERT!!!! I'm on vacation and the last thing I want to do is learn about how I can waste money on a time share. The lady behind the counter sensed I was getting annoyed so she dropped it after the 3rd try.

Other than that, the stay at the resort was pleasant. We were touring wineries during the day and relaxed by the pool before dinner. The pool and hot tubs were great.

I'd probably stay here again, since the price point is cheap (compared to the real chic resorts in Napa).

Room Tip: Try to get a room in the new building. Same room types, just cleaner and updated.

The Meritage is a first class resort complete with pool area, bowling alley, wine tasting, and convention facilities. I stayed at the Meritage during the Second Annual Napa Insitute for leaders in the Catholic Church. This resort, founded by Tim Busch, goes beyond the norm, particularly for those with a spiritual orientation as it features a Perpetual Adoration Chapel and an altar deep in the Estate Cave. Priests often stay at the resort and daily mass there. If God can be at home at the Meritage, how can you go wrong!

Rooms are big and quiet, beds excellent, and easily accessible from parking lot where parking is free.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent.

The staff at this beautiful, new facility worked hard to make the experience a great one. However, the location of he properly made it difficult to appreciate their efforts. The sprawling, well decorated, well maintained and spotless resort is in a business park. Granted, once you walk through the doors you don't recall what's outside, but it's an odd location in such a rustic place. Nick, Justin and the crew were fantastic. I'd stay again but you must have a car! Do this property once and then go rustic!

Thank you for your review! We are happy to hear you enjoyed your stay. Next time, give our complementary evening shuttle a try into downtown Napa. We understand our location is out of the ordinary, and we hope that once you experienced the resort that made no difference. We hope to see you again soon!

This is a tough call for me. Beautiful new expansion, nice pool area and a great Spa. The problem is ambiance. It's just a little funky. Site lines are compromised by roofs, concrete common areas should maybe be grass and the location is peculiar. Rooms are fairly small for a "resort", which it really isn't. And a bowling alley......... didn't really get that whole concept. All of that said, we really enjoyed our stay and loved the servers. I could see staying here again.

Room Tip: There are no better sides however if you can get a "true" vineyard view that might work, e...

This facility is a fabulous place to stay while in the Napa area!
It is both a 'Hotel' facility and a Shell Vacations Club resort and one of the very finest available anywhere. I have stayed there with both; and find the stay among the most enjoyable of anywhere!

Room Tip: All the rooms of the hotel are excellent; the SVC rooms are a little different and even better!

The Meritage is perfect-clean and new! All amenities are close by and easy access. The glow in the dark bowling is a kick. Pool is great and restaurant is perfect. We got the tastecation package which included dinner, breakfast, wine tasting (Trinitas was awesome), and bowling and it was a great deal. The spa is a must do- Great hotel and grounds. Would definitely stay there again!

This was a beautiful resort! The grounds were gorgeous. The staff was friendly and the concierges were extremely helpful. If you plan on visiting the vineyards, make sure you see the concierge first! They helped us get the most out of our 3 days there! They also provide you with wine tasting deals. The complimentary bottle of wine in the room was also a nice touch! Don't leave without visiting the spa and the Trinitas tasting room. The zinfandel chocolate sauce is divine!! You will need a car to do most of the tastings. There are shuttles to downtown Napa, but if you only have a limited time, skip it. We liked the other towns much better. It's also only about a half hour drive from Sonoma if you want to see a different wine valley.

Room Tip: We chose a room overlooking the terrace. It was more relaxing and probably quieter than a pool view...
