“Great way to see the valley”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

The wine train was everything we hoped for. The food was fabulous, the train beautiful, the wine superb, and the people that served us were great. We made reservations early and got the dome car. Seating in the dome car is limited, but the view is amazing.

“Very Good Dining with a "Vintage" Train Ride Through the Vineyards”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2013

The Wine Train was a thoroughly satisfying experience of a very good meal and a vintage train ride through beautiful countryside together. Someone has paid a lot of attention to detail on this vintage train. For a couple of hours we felt that we had gone back in time to the heyday of first class passenger trains.

Although we would have preferred a late afternoon dinner, we took a weekday gourmet express trip for lunch because sundown in October arrives almost as the later train leaves the station. We chose the second meal seating so that we would eat after noon. The experience of having appetizers and drinks in the observation car was just like we imagined it would have been in the decades before the 1960’s.

Considering the constant motion and the large number of guests to be served, our food was surprisingly fresh, hot and delicious. The crew was very helpful in telling us what to expect at any time and suggesting that we tour the train before the main meal so we could see all ten cars.

There are a lot of local options that operate in conjunction with the Wine Train. Everything about the train suggests that this business is successful because guests are provided what they are looking for. A first class destination.

“OK BUT NOT GREAT”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

The food and the service was good. The cost for lunch is $99 to $134 and while it costs a lot to keep the train running, it is overpriced for what you get. The "free" glass of wine was probably the worst White Wine I have ever tasted. Two Buck Chuck would be better. We opted for the Gourmet Lunch at $114 a person and the food was good. The $99 lunch is Bar B Q and is served in a "classic" car. The windows in this car open and when we walked through all the windows were open and since the temp was in the 50's it was a little chilly. Their is a wine tasting car with four good ours for $10. However, I have never been to a tasting where white wine is served at room temperature. They don't have a way to keep it cool? Maybe a tub of some kind would work. The wine selection for purchase is reasonably priced. If you want to take your own they charge $15 corkage.

Thank you for riding with us, and I am sorry you did not feel you got the greatest of value for your money. You are correct in that it costs a lot to keep our Train running; we do it to preserve the history of our train cars, the tracks, and the founding family’s dream. I am also sorry our Private Label Chardonnay, bottled by Raymond Vineyards using their finest reserve grapes, was not to your liking. Since it can get chilly in our Silverado Car, we only seat it May though October, so you may have been towards the tail end of its season.
I have brought the issue with the white wines at the Wine Bar to the attention of our wine educators. We now are using double walled coolers for our whites to keep them chilled throughout the journey. Thank you for mentioning this as we are always looking for ways to improve on company.

“Napa Valley Wine Train Castle Tour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

The whole experience was great fun! The food on the train was very good, although I thought that it was a bit overpriced for what we got. The experience at the Castle was terrific! Our guide, Marc, was fun, very well informed, patient and quite entertaining. A great way to spend a day in the wine country!
