“Wonderful food, super setting and lovely vibe!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

Staying at the wonderful Inn On Randolph, we only had one night in Napa and really wanted to make every second count. Having spent the day visiting wineries and walking around, we were ravenous! We'd booked Celadon in advance as we heard it was good and it certainly didn't disappoint.

Whatever you do, don't miss out on the flash fried CALAMARI as a starter, it's so good you'll want to slap somebody. The couple sitting next to us described it as candied squid, and they were right - melt in the mouth goodness! In fact, I'm having withdrawal, the memory is so strong I can still taste it now, sat at my desk 5000 miles away back in London - there should be a 12 step programme to help you get over it...

Anyhow, I followed this with the Moroccan inspired lamb shank, which was equally as good. A big portion of slow cooked, fall off the bone lamb, on a bed of sweet couscous - if you like tagine, you'll go nuts for this dish.

Of course, the wine was great (as you'd expect) and the ambience relaxing with the right hint of contemporary cool that didn't affect the romantic vibe. One or two tables were a little raucous, and it was quite loud but I put this down to the fact that everyone in the restaurant had been drinking and tasting wine since 11am! Not that I blame them, we were in serious wine country so I guess that's to be expected!

Highly recommend

Chris

“meh. pretty good, but not great.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2013

Entrance is a little hidden, down and around from main street. Easy and free parking directly across the street in the 600 block. $15 corkage fee is one of the lower I have seen in Napa, so that was a plus. We brought our own wine. the wine list is somewhat limited, although there are some nice choices, both local, and decidedly *not* local. The appetizers, served to the whole table were quite good- mussels in a delicious sauce, and calamari with a bit of honey. Dinner was somewhat of a mixed bag. the New York strips, 21-day aged beef, were fabulous, excellently prepared, but the scallops and ahi failed to deliver. Desserts were pretty good. try the apple+walnut galette. Service was dependable. Kitchen staff thoughtfully kept one dish warm when one guest received an important call. the patio was very comfortable, with a nice breeze. Once the sun set, and the breeze turned cool, they lowered protective awnings to keep the patio comfortable. For me, this is good, but not a return-worthy stop given all the great food in the valley. I'm pretty darn picky about food, so others may disagree a little. No view (hey- it's downtown), somewhat limited atmosphere.

“delicious”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

Good service and excellent food, done to perfection. We had scallops and fish of the day. They even made us 1/2 of a desert, bread pudding, because we were too full for the larger serving!.

“Yummy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

Had dinner here and it was WONDERFUL. The macadamia nut encrusted goat cheese and fig appetiser was awesome as was the tomatoe soup. Everything about this place was great, service, food, locale. Highly recommend.

“lovely patio, average food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

Celadon has a lovely outdoor patio to enjoy. The menu is adequate, but not inspired. The salads were 90% lettuce, and not even nice lettuces or the best parts of the lettuce leaves. I chose the polenta with roasted veggies -- the eggplant was tough and inedible, and the flavors didn't meld at all. My husband chose the sea bass special, which he liked. The wine list was adequate but surprisingly overpriced.
