“Great Sauces and Pasta...but....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2014

The service was great, the prices were fair for the area, the wine selection was good and the food was really tasty....except for the Shrimp...which they said on the menu were prawns...they were not. Nor were they cooked with the meal...they were pre-cooked (bland boiled and rubbery) with the tail shells still on them....we think this was so they could be used for cocktail or other such multipurpose dishes. Since the pasta and sauce were wonderful, I finished my plate, just not the mini-prawns. I did tell the waiter and of course he insisted my assessment was incorrect and they never pre-cook the shrimp, but they comp'ed the entire meal. That was NOT necessary because I ate it and normally would result in a lower tab.... ie: lower tip for the waiter too. Instead we paid what should have been the entire bill, plus tip all to go to the waiter...he was great. We never asked for a refund...just wanted to provide feedback.

“Penny-pinching dinner”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2014

We arrived, as a party of 5, with no reservations, but were pleasantly surprised to be seated immediately. Unfortunately, we were seated next to the door to the patio outside, it was around 30 degrees out, I can't believe anyone was actually sat out there, but they obviously were, as the waiters kept going in and out, making the place we were sitting freezing cold.

We had my eleven year old daughter with us, there was a kid's menu inside the normal menu, there was no age range mentioned. We have been to restaurants where the menu say's under 7's or under 9's for instance, but normally when no age range is given you expect the portions to feed children under the age of 12. My daughter ordered pasta with butter and parmesan, at a cost of $5.95, when it came it had 20 pieces of fusilli pasta in a tiny soup bowl. I've never seen any restaurant, let alone an Italian one, be so tight-fisted with pasta. We had to order her another bowl, which again came with only 20 pieces in.

When we got our bill, we had been charged for both bowls. We'd had 3 starters and 4 expensive main dishes, as well as a bottle of wine and a couple of beers.

If you don't want to offer kid's meals in your restaurant that's fine, she would have happily ordered from the main menu, and we would pay the equivalent price for a full meal, instead of 40 pieces of pasta.

I won't eat here again because of their stingy treatment.

“Good Italian in downtown Napa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2014

Read reviews and decided to go to Ristorante Allegria on a Sunday night. It was fairly crowded but we were immediately seated. We ordered the veal scallopine and the Capellini Pomodoro with chicken. Both meals were delicious. Portion sizes were large, especially the capellini. Service was good. We didn't have drinks so received our meals fairly quickly but that was ok as we were not there for a long, romantic meal.

I would recommend this restaurant for a nice Italian meal if you are in or near downtown Napa.

“Great food and ambiance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 20, 2014

This restaurant is gorgeous inside, as others have noted, it was a former bank so high ceilings, tall windows, just a great all around feel to the place when you walk in.

We dined on a Saturday night with reservations, thank goodness. We were a party of 5; we were seated upstairs at a table that overlooked the tables below but in the way you felt you were leaning over their plates.

The majority of our party ordered pasta dishes, with one of our party ordering the Australian beef. All dishes looked and tasted wonderful. Started with the appetizer mixer of crab cakes, skirt steak skewers and calamari (actually ordered two servings of this).

Desserts ordered were creme brulee, cheese cake and the sundae. Again, all dishes great!

I would come back to this restaurant in a heartbeat but know there are so many great places to eat up here.

Two thumbs up!

“A great Napa gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2014

To echo other reviewers, the food here here is excellent and prepared in an open kitchen. It's a little difficult to find, but definitely worth it. Portions are good and well presented. There is an outdoor patio that is very accommodating. The building used to be a bank with an actual vault that is a private dining area. Service was exceptional! All of our needs/requests were cheerfully accommodated. If you are in the downtown Napa area looking for a great place to dine fine Italian food; then this is the place! Prices are reasonable especially for Napa standards. They are open all day on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
