“I love this place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

Stayed in a two bedroom family suite, and it was absolutely wonderful! Upon check-in we were given a complimentary glass of wine, then whisked away to our cottage. The suite was nice and big, yet it had a simple elegance and practicality...not overstated. The outdoor fireplace was used often and also the jacuzzi tub during the evening time, ahhh! What we especially enjoyed was the fact the we were able to bring our whole family to enjoy the place, including our two dogs. For a nominal fee, we were also given dog beds, and also couple of bowls for water.

I certainly would recommend this place to anyone wanting to take in the "Napa experience", and also to relax and unwind.

We had heard so much about the Carneros Inn that we were really excited at the prospect of staying there. I see that a reviewer recently described it as "an amazing property" and "memorable". Well, I guess that it all depends on what you mean by "amazing" and "memorable". Sadly, for us, it was far from amazing and it was memorable for the wrong reasons. We eventually tracked down the reception hall after going past innumerable fences and through gates and under barriers, only to find that our Chalet wasn't ready. So, having been handed a map of the property (my immediate thought was that the drawing made it look a little like a prison camp!) we headed for the pool. In fact, the pool is immediately behind the reception hall, but it's built in the middle of a field - that's as good a description as I can come up with! There's a restaurant on one side, the spa/gym/shop on the other and the other two sides are open to the cornfields. And to corn flies by the thousand. It was a pretty dispirited bunch that was assembled around the pool so we were quite glad when we were told that our little Hut ... er ... Chalet was ready. To be fair, No. 1 Gunter wasn't so bad. It offered a good-sized bedroom and a fabulous bathroom with access to an outside shower (quite why you'd want to shower outside was never explained to us but it was there). We even had our own wee back yard, with a table and four chairs and a sunbed - and a complimentary bottle of wine ('orrible!). There were even complimentary soft drinks in the fridge. Disaffected by the atmosphere around the pool area, we decided to relax in our yard for the rest of the afternoon. In the evening, before Dinner, we decided to go for a drink at The Farm. A barn of a place (no pun intended) it’s been built to hold maybe 150, but there were seven of us, all seated at the bar. The barman was a cheerful soul but the other guests, like the ones we'd seen at the pool, were the most unhappy people I've seen in California. No-one was laughing, no-one was having fun. It was funereal and we were glad to leave. We'd been recommended to eat in the Boonfly Cafe and that's what we did. Oh, dear, oh dear. We both ordered one of the house specialities - fish and chips - a mistake. Not only are "chips" in reality hot "potato crisps" (i.e. not fries) the fish was as dull and uninteresting as the setting and the surroundings. Whereas it should have been white and shiny, it was grey and lifeless, and it tasted of nothing. On the basis that it couldn't possibly be as bad again, we headed back there for breakfast the next morning, and to be absolutely fair, it was a lot better. Freshly made food to order, with nice fruit juices and coffee. No complaints this time around. But overall - sorry Carneros Inn. Vastly disappointing. We won't be back.

Location:
- This hotel is at the southern end of Napa so if you are driving in from SF, it's closer. However, it is not "centrally located" in Napa like some of the other 5 star resorts so depending on which wineries/restaurants you are going to, you could still be 30 minutes away. Perhaps take this into consideration when making your itinerary for Napa.

Hotel/Rooms:
- Sprawled across beautifully manicured grounds, individual cottages give you some privacy but they are not totally individual (about 3-4 rooms in one large cottage). However the sound proofing is excellent and you will feel like you are all alone.
- Most (maybe all) of the cottages have a sizable backyard with a fire pit and some even have an outdoor tub and shower. We had some s'mores and wine around the cockpit which was really nice.
- The room itself is not super spacious, but adequate. The bathroom, however, is quite large with a nice soaking tub, separate shower, and separate toilet closet. The floors in the bathroom are heated which is awesome (no cold feet when you're stumbling to the toilet at 3am!) The amenities are red flower and smell delicious but aren't travel sized so you can't take them to go with you unless you want to pay $35/btl.

Food:
- They have a casual restaurant (Boonfly) and more upscale restaurant (FARM) which are both excellent and serve fresh, local ingredients- quintessential Napa fare.
- Room service menu is also available if you just can't be bothered to leave your cabin

Service:
- Attentive but not obtrusive. Most of the staff were young- I don't think I met anyone over the age of 40, but they seem knowledgable and eager to help.
- Concierge has a nice map of Napa vineyards showing which ones are open to public vs those you have to make an appointment so definitely pick one of those up
- Bicycles are available for rental if you want to cruise around the property

Fitness Center:
- I went at 8:30 on a Saturday and it was PACKED- about a dozen people working out and it was cramped. Equipment is standard- a few cardio machines, free weights, mats, medicine balls but the layout was cramped and did not allow an efficient workout.
- They do have complimentary water/towels/headsets for use during your workout

Spa:
- Standard for a high end hotel- the treatment options are not as extensive as a "spa hotel" but they are all good. I had a deep tissue massage with Nayela and she had just the right pressure and technique. Enjoyed some time in the sauna and steamroom, but no whirlpool/hot tub in the spa.

Overall:
- A solid pick for Napa, but I'm not sure if it's totally worth the money. During high season (around harvest when the weather is really nice), it's getting close to 4 figures by the time you add the taxes- this can be pretty standard for the high end Napa places though. Also consider Auberge, Meadowood, and Bardessono- they are all different and you can't really go wrong with any of them. Cheers!

My husband and I stayed at the Carneros Inn for part of our honeymoon in October 2010. This is the most amazing property that I've ever stayed at and we still talk about the wonderful time we had here. We had a vineyard view cottage and were greeted with a handwritten note, bottle of wine, and cheese platter when we got to our guest cottage. We enjoyed breakfast on our private patio and walking the amazing grounds. The heated floors in the bathrooms were a nice touch and I loved the décor and design so much that we replicated the bathroom when my husband and I built our house earlier this year. FARM was amazing, we had a great picnic lunch from the Market, and enjoyed chatting with other honeymooners over breakfast at the Boon Fly. We had a perfect experience and can't wait to go back.

We stayed for one night in late September and had a really wonderful and memorable time. Check-in was a relaxing experience; we were ushered into the reception area and offered a seat and a check-in table, and were then offered us a glass of wine. Our room keys in hand, we were then driven by golf cart to our cottage, "Lee #5." Beautifully decorated; very modern with an abundance of amenities. And like the other guests have said, having a standalone cottage complete with huge bathroom, outdoor shower and back "deck" made it feel like a home away from home.

Additionally, I had stated in our reservations that it was our anniversary so it was a very nice surprise to receive a complimentary bottle of champagne delivered to our room with a nice card, shortly after we arrived.

We ate dinner at The Farm and despite only being able to secure 5:30p.m. reservations, we ended up making a night of it and never felt rushed in the least. It was a leisurely dinner filled with amazing food and incredible muddled blueberry ginger cocktails. We then went outside to enjoy one of the many firepits alongside the restaurant. It was a fairly busy night which provided good energy without feeling cramped or crowded.

We then made our way to the hot tub and had a quick soak; well worth doing late at night when the air is extremely crisp and the hot water felt amazing.

Our reservations included a $40 breakfast coupon. While it certainly didn't cover all of our breakfast up at the Hilltop Dining Room, it certainly helped. Breakfast was wonderful as well.

I certainly would have stayed longer and taken advantage of the fitness and spa facilities but will have to save those experiences for next time.

We love The Carneros Inn. We even had our wedding here, so we go back every year to celebrate our anniversary. It's a beautiful and peaceful property. There's nothing not to like about it. However, the reservation staff could be friendlier.

We just stayed 4 nights in a cottage and loved everything about it! The "back yard" with fireplace, soaking tub , outdoor shower and seating areas was awesome! We booked for our 10yr anniversary and they comped us a bottle of champaign, a "smores kit" and a $100 food and Bev credit. The grounds are beautiful especially the hilltop pool area. Make sure you try a few of the signature cocktails at the pool. Yes, Carneros is on the high end but at the saying goes "you get what you pay for".
