“An unbelievable experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

After doing our due diligence on all the hotels in Napa, my fiancé and I decided to stay at the Carneros Inn back in May. We came here as a post-engagement celebration and it blew away our expectations.

As soon as we arrived we were offered a glass of wine and we knew we were in good hands. Everyone talks about the pool there, and with good reason. It's just a ridiculous setting and even the professional pictures do not do it justice.

We stayed in the basic cottage house, and for a young couple, I don't know what more we could have needed. The private outdoor area, complete with outdoor shower, was a nice bonus. The spa was great - we both left feeling spoiled.

We didn't get a chance to dine at Farm, which we were bummed about, but can't complain about ordering room service from Boon Fly Cafe!

All in all, it was an incredible experience. One we will never forget. Already planning on coming back for our 1 year anniversary!

We stayed at The Carneros Inn in September 2012 for 2 nights taking advantage of the Celebrate Romance package. There's no denying that it was an expensive stay, but we felt it was worth every penny. Check in was smooth - we drove up to the main reception and were greeted with a lovely chilled glass of wine and given the run through of the estate. We were then shown to our Garden Cottage which was waiting for us with champagne on ice. The cottages are small but perfectly formed and we loved the inside / outside shower!

We dined at FARM on our first night which was a lovely fine dining experience - service was wonderful with great advice on wine and food choices. Our second night we dined at the Boon Fly Cafe which was a great take on an American Diner - warning for any UK folks, the portions are enormous! I had my eye on dessert initially, but it wasn't to be - I was very nearly beaten by the mac and cheese starter! For breakfast, we ate at the Hilltop (fantastic poached eggs!) and the second day had breakfast delivered to our room which was prompt and delicious. Be sure to get the half dozen donuts - amazing!

The pool was a fabulous place to just relax and watch the clouds rolling over the vineyards - very peaceful and plenty of loungers so you didn't feel too close to the other guests. Drinks service by the pool was very attentive too.

We felt absolutely pampered on our stay at the Carneros and very much hope to return one day in the future.

Stayed here for second time over new year and was disappointed. Our room cabral 1 is in need of a lot of maintenance: cracked tile in shower; front door swelling so was difficult to close; drywall cracks in bathroom; scuff marks on walls
Rooms service seemed understaffed...some days got to clean at 3pm...closet for dusty

We stayed at the Carneros Inn in November 2012 and I will never stay anywhere else in Napa again. We had a Harvest cottage and completely enjoyed the indoor/outdoor setup. The outdoor fire pit and soaking tub were great to come home to after visiting a few wineries during the day. The service was excellent, the amenities were great. We can't wait to go back!

Sigh. This past October marked my fifth - and likely final - stay at The Carneros Inn. We booked a garden cottage with king bed because, sadly, nothing else was available for our four-night stay. It was disappointing that we were placed in a room that was RIGHT by the Sonoma Highway, because we could hear traffic from every single passing car on the road from our private patio. We noticed that the hotel was definitely NOT at full capacity, so I'm not sure why we were placed in a cottage with such disturbing noise issues. Needless to say, I did not spend ANY time in our private patio during the stay (except to use the outdoor shower). My husband still indulged a bit on the patio, but it wasn't quite the relaxing environment we have been previously spoiled with during our four stays. I can't remember the name of our cottage (it's been a few months since our stay), but it was the closest cottage to Boon Fly.

We received the complimentary bottle of Chardonnay and a cheese/nut/fruit plate again for being repeat guests. We also received free tastings at all the Carneros affiliated wineries (Plumpjack, CADE, and the newest - Odette Esate), which were fun and as expected. But honestly, the benefits of being a repeat guest aren't tempting enough for me to not explore other options in Napa. On our next trip to Napa, I'll likely book the Bardessono (for an experience in a LEED Platinum certified hotel) or Auberge du Soleil (those views!). Goodbye, Carneros! Thanks for the memories, but the value of spending $600+/night at one of your cottages has been lost on me.

Room Tip: Ask for a cottage away from the Sonoma Highway and closer to the Hilltop Pool and Spa. Less noise f...

I really wanted to give this place a stunning review, but I think the only stunning part of the entire property was the pool and pool view. Driving through the property is confusing, to find the reception area. Once we got there, no one greeted us at reception for a good 15 minutes upon our arrival, so we stood there confused, looking at frazzled Inn staff for help. Finally a young girl casually approaches us, asking if we'd like a glass of white wine. I decline, and tell her we'd like to check in, and asked where did we do that? She shows us the check in desks, each full of guests. The staff checking in guests were a bit frantic and seemingly understaffed, unable to handle all that was being thrown at them. Finally after waiting about 25 minutes total, we get checked in, that all went fine. He assured us we had one of the nicer rooms on the property in closing, as we had asked if there were any other better rooms than the one we had, but he assured us this was a nice one.
Once we got to our room, we were pretty shocked. Talk about SMALL rooms, with no place to put our luggage, or our clothing that we packed for the trip. One little closet, and maybe a couple shallow and short drawers were available for our 3 day 2 night stay. It felt like a tiny shoebox of a room. It was decorated well enough, again nothing special. The room also had an attached deck, that you could go out and enjoy, along with a garden, and an outdoor bathtub. This was nice and spacious. However, we ended up keeping our luggage out on the deck, just to have some space to move around in our room, but it was still tiny. I found this unacceptable, having to keep luggage outside on the deck of our room, just to have some space, and the hotel staff had no other solutions available.
The shining star of The Carneros Inn is the swimming pool, and it's view. Service by the pool was confusing and very spotty. It took the staff forever to figure out, which staff member was going to serve us, after a good amount of arguing. The pool food, just OK, pool drinks, just OK..
The Inn has three places to eat, we only tried two of them. 1. The breakfast room or Hilltop, near the pool, and 2. We had dinner at FARM.. The food was good at breakfast, and again the service was frazzled, understaffed, and over worked is what it looked and felt like. Not that pleasant. FARM was much more pleasant and professional, and the food again good. I wasn't blown away, but our meal was good. The service in FARM was also much more professional, it felt more relaxed, plenty of staff, and even some of the servers seemed to be enjoying taking care of their guests.

Room Tip: If you check in, and find your room to be too small, definitely ask to see a larger room, and try to...

We stayed at the Carneros Inn for our anniversary in March. The surroundings are beautiful, we stayed in a Harvest Cottage with the outdoor soaking tub and it could not be more romantic.

We were surprised by a bottle of wine and cheese when we arrived to the room and the room and outdoor space made this stay one of the most unique experiences we have had in a hotel.

The views from the pool were astonishing and it makes you feel in the middle of the country. We had some treatments at the Spa, they were excellent.

We had breakfast at the Hilltop and the food, especially the poached eggs were excellent. We loved the small market within the property and dinner at the Farm was really good, we loved the décor.

We planned a balloon ride over Napa valley, however the weather didn't allow us to do it.

Highly recommended hotel, we can't wait to return.
