I really wanted to give this place a stunning review, but I think the only stunning part of the entire property was the pool and pool view. Driving through the property is confusing, to find the reception area. Once we got there, no one greeted us at reception for a good 15 minutes upon our arrival, so we stood there confused, looking at frazzled Inn staff for help. Finally a young girl casually approaches us, asking if we'd like a glass of white wine. I decline, and tell her we'd like to check in, and asked where did we do that? She shows us the check in desks, each full of guests. The staff checking in guests were a bit frantic and seemingly understaffed, unable to handle all that was being thrown at them. Finally after waiting about 25 minutes total, we get checked in, that all went fine. He assured us we had one of the nicer rooms on the property in closing, as we had asked if there were any other better rooms than the one we had, but he assured us this was a nice one.
Once we got to our room, we were pretty shocked. Talk about SMALL rooms, with no place to put our luggage, or our clothing that we packed for the trip. One little closet, and maybe a couple shallow and short drawers were available for our 3 day 2 night stay. It felt like a tiny shoebox of a room. It was decorated well enough, again nothing special. The room also had an attached deck, that you could go out and enjoy, along with a garden, and an outdoor bathtub. This was nice and spacious. However, we ended up keeping our luggage out on the deck, just to have some space to move around in our room, but it was still tiny. I found this unacceptable, having to keep luggage outside on the deck of our room, just to have some space, and the hotel staff had no other solutions available.
The shining star of The Carneros Inn is the swimming pool, and it's view. Service by the pool was confusing and very spotty. It took the staff forever to figure out, which staff member was going to serve us, after a good amount of arguing. The pool food, just OK, pool drinks, just OK..
The Inn has three places to eat, we only tried two of them. 1. The breakfast room or Hilltop, near the pool, and 2. We had dinner at FARM.. The food was good at breakfast, and again the service was frazzled, understaffed, and over worked is what it looked and felt like. Not that pleasant. FARM was much more pleasant and professional, and the food again good. I wasn't blown away, but our meal was good. The service in FARM was also much more professional, it felt more relaxed, plenty of staff, and even some of the servers seemed to be enjoying taking care of their guests.
If you check in, and find your room to be too small, definitely ask to see a larger room, and try to...
