On Friday last week, my family took me to Mustards Grill while I was visiting from Salt Lake City, UT.
We arrived at five o'clock pm. Although there were a number of unreserved tables available, we were taken to the one closest to the service area.
We requested another table and grudgingly were given it.
My sister had been to Mustards' a number of times and loved it and highly recommended it and particularly, the Hangar Steak.
We ordered cocktails and two appetizers.
The corn tamale appetizer, though minute and not really a tamale but rather a piece of soft polenta with some mushrooms inside and a very nice sauce placed on a small piece of corn husk, was wonderful!
The other appetizer, calamari, though good, was so drowned in a cabbage salad mixture that they were soggy.
But the greatest disappointment was the Hangar Steak which arrived almost too crispy on the outside to be good and with a very funny aftertaste. According to my sister it was nothing like what was served the other times she had been there.
Like all meals in wine country, the meal, with wine, desert, coffee & cocktails, was very expensive.
The exterior and surrounding kitchen garden was charming.
But, I would never return.
