“Nice, but not a typical Westin”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2012

The Westin was nice, clean, and in a great spot for the winery tours by train. It lacked the usual fanciness of a typical Westin hotel that I love, if it weren't for the Heavenly bed I wouldn't have known it was an upmarket (read: expensive) resort. We were kept waiting 4 1/2 hours for our room, after being told on three occasions it would be ten minutes. We were given a free drink as a result, but 4:30 check in after requesting 12 was pretty bad. The valet staff are fantastic, attentive, fun, and great at their job.

Thank you for the feedback and I’m sorry for our inability to meet your expectations. I would agree that when requesting an early check in, the least that should be expected is the 3pm guaranteed check in time. I have spoken to my front desk and housekeeping staff and we are identifying some areas that can and will be improved.

We greatly appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your feedback and we’ll hope to see you back on any future visits to the Napa Valley.

Be well,

A special shout out to the valet and bell staff; they are among the most professional and personable I have encountered anyplace. The hotel is not exactly in the center of everything but close enough to walk to the center of town and Oxbow market. It's definitely not on the grand scale of other Westins I've stayed in; everything's scaled down a bit. Which for a relaxing week-end in wine country is not a bad thing: gives it a bit more of an inn feel.

They do charge you a resort fee which, as usual, is for stuff you'd never use...with the exception of valet parking (although there's plenty of street parking in the area.) At the same time, they are pet friendly and do not charge a pet fee at all, so from that perspective, it's well worth it.

Thank you and I will be giving our valet and bell staff kudos and recognition for continuing to be a bright spot for all of our guests. I also would like to thank you for giving our future guests some insight on our hotel's amenity fee. While I do agree that a resort amenity fee can seem like a bit of a put off at face value there is a lot of value added. Our resorts amenity fee, includes but is not limited to, free valet, free wireless internet, no charge for pets, free local shuttle service, our salt water pool and hot tub, our Westin Workout and our running concierge, for those that enjoy running but need a little motivation.

Thank you again and we’ll hope to see you back soon!

We went to Napa to get away from (of all places) Lake Tahoe. We usually stay around St. Helena because our favorite wineries are up there, but we decided to check out downtown Napa. The Westin is a beautiful hotel but not very quiet. There is construction by the wine train station and you can hear the guests talking in the hallways and heavy stomping in the room above us. One morning we were awakened by the sound of a loud group business people in the courtyard at 7AM eating breakfast. We were in a one bedroom suite with the kitchen, which was lovely but who wants to cook especially when you have great restaurants in the area. It's walking distance to the Oxbow market (which is a giant food court) and the downtown area on the other side of the river. This is a great place for business people, partiers or kids with families, not for a quiet relaxing getaway.

Thank you for your response and I’d like to apologize for the noise issues that you experienced. There is no way we can compete with the peace and tranquility of many of the hotels, bed and breakfast and inn’s, in and around St. Helena, but we do have the accessibility to many great locations within walking distance. As you mentioned we are at the doorstep of downtown Napa and all that it offers; The Oxbow Market, the River Walk and many of the local tasting rooms and restaurants.

I encourage you to comeback and visit us again and please feel free to contact the hotel directly, or ask when making a reservation, for a room in a quieter area of the hotel. We do our best to meet all guest request and although I can’t guarantee it, I can ensure a more relaxing and rejuvenating stay.

The hotel is lovely, and small enough to not be overwhelming or daunting. But the pool area was too small and loud with kids and couples whooping it up for their vacations. If you are interested in a quiet getaway, the Westin Verasa may not be the place for you.

On the plus side, the location on the bank of the Napa River and close to downtown Napa is convenient.

If you are Starwood Gold (or above) member, you may be offput by the lack of recognition. I was asked to choose between free internet or my Starwood points, which was a pretty low-rent proposition to present me. Of course I want my points, and most Gold+ status usually includes internet these days. Other than that offputting experience, I was given a pamphlet with some Gold discounts at wineries, which also sort of seemed low-rent to me. Perks to me are not necessarily discounts. Anyway, that's for your Starwood points peeps out there...

Thank you for the detailed feedback, specifically in regards to the noise and the SPG program. Furthermore, I would like to apologize for both. I do still think that there is the opportunity for a relaxing getaway but on the weekend it can be a bit more difficult with the location of the pool and our hotel set up. Some of the quieter areas are rooms with oxbow views, river views and bocce court views although the pool is one of the prettier views.

Also, since the release of the new SPG benefits we have been coaching our team on ways to present the material more effectively and I think that your feedback has given some perfect examples of ways they can improve their guest interactions. I would 100% agree that it’s not always about the products and discounts you receive but much of being an elite member is the presentation and recognition of that status.

Thank you once again,

Short stay in early May in a one-bedroom suite. Room was very nice, comfortable and lots of space. Didn't use the kitchenette, but well equipped.

Usual Westin amenities - great bed, nice bath products, pleasantly decorated throughout.

The only downside was that we were located very near the service entrance - woken early in the morning by garbage/recycling trucks and the compressors outside kept us from using the nice balcony. Avoid this end of the property if at all possible. If not for our room location, this probably would have been a 5 of 5 stay.

Room Tip: Avoid the Northwest corner of the building -- the service entrance and A/C equipment are noisy

All in all, I liked this place. It's a great landing spot for your Napa / Sonoma wine country visit. Our room had a kitchenette and was generally well-appointed. It's easy to walk to a lot of restaurants from here, and all the Napa wineries are a really easy drive. I would have appreciated if the staff would vacuum and clean the top of the sofa and the top of the headboard, but other than that it was generally clean. Staff was nice and easy to work with, especially the valet service. I would stay here again.

Great location. But pool deck is loud, the noise increases throughout the day. Breakfast is a low din that can be heard in rooms. Afternoons, you can hear kids screaming at the pool. And nights, the staff doesn't do much to quiet down the adults drinking/yelling on the deck. The weekend we were there in April, it went on until 11-Midnight (and after). Even with the room's fan turned on high for white noise, we couldn't sleep. Frustrating. Definitely request a room on the non-pool side of the building if you're there in any season other than winter.

Room Tip: Request a room on the non-pool side of the building!

LuxuryTraveler42,

Thank you very much for your feedback and I would like to apologize for our inability to correct the noise from the patio area late in the evening. Although some of the most requested and nicest views are on the pool side of the hotel, there is the down side of noise from that area. Especially during the warmer times of the year, the pool and patio areas are popular locations for fun and socializing. We have put together a strategy for correcting a lot of these issues and hope to be able to make sure these occurrences’ are minimized for all future guests.

Thank you again and we’ll hope to see you back soon,
Nathan Baslaw
