Owner description: Jarvis Estate is a family owned winery dedicated to crafting a limited quantity of preeminent wines from our sustainably farmed, estate vineyards in the rugged hillside, four miles east of downtown Napa Valley. The Jarvis Estate winemaking facility is entirely contained within 45,000 square feet of cave tunneled into the scenic Vaca Mountains, and is not only a visual masterpiece, but a technical masterpiece as well. Wines are produced only from estate grown grapes and are cave-aged to perfection prior to release. Varietals include: Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Verdot, Tempranillo and a two proprietary Bordeaux blends.

“You won't be disappointed!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

We toured Jarvis on our last day in Napa, and it was spectacular! The caves made for such unique experience. Our tour guide Rob was very funny and ends with a sit down tasting with cheeses. We ended up joining their club, and look forward to enjoying our Jarvis wines for years to come.

“The Tour to Take!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

A huge winery in a man made cave? While it may sound odd at first mention, this is the tour you will never forget! Our host was very personable and clear knw everything about the wines and the winemaking procress. The tour is educational, amusing, and offers a glimpse of every step of the process. The Crystal room and waterfall are stunning. My only regret is that after following the advice of our host to allow the wine to ipen for 5 to 7 minutes after the first sip, there was a rush ( "We will be leaving in two minutes.") for the door and no time to savor the wines. The Brie and Chevre offered with the wines was a welcomed addition. While the tour is costly, it is well worth the price.

“Outstanding tour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2013

My husband and I truly enjoyed our tour of Jarvis's cave with Rob. This was our first stop on our third trip to Napa, and we love that we continue to learn new and interesting things about wine-making with every visit. Rob was very informative, but kept things light and interesting with his sly humor. The cave's waterfall is lovely for photo-ops, and the in-cave production is definitely something to see. I would recommend a trip to Jarvis for the tour alone.

Everything about this operation is over-the-top. Both the cave (bathrooms look like Liberace decorated) and the wines have clearly been created without any regard to cost. This can be a good thing and a bad thing. Ultimately, I do not think the final products justify their prices. Wines were nice, but not stand-outs in my opinion.

Also, I am very sensitive to sulfites and any sort of leftover mold from vines, etc., and Jarvis's wines really set off my allergies. I tend to have good experiences with small-scale wineries due to the extra care (hand-sorting, prolonged barrel aging, etc.) they put into their products. At Jarvis's price-point, I would have expected their grapes to have been handled with kid gloves. With the allergy attack, needless to say, my palate was completely blown for the rest of the day. Very disappointing for me, and something to consider for visitors with similar issues.
