“Nothing amazing... could be spectacular.”
Spent a couple of days in Napa and this was supposed to be a highlight, and although it wasn't bad, it wasn't anything that special.
For the food, i was expecting something special, and although it was good, it wasn't worth the money. For instance, the started salad my wife had was the same as one we had in a pub restaurant in town the night before and that one was much better. It's also strange that the wine train doesn't include any wine as part of the bill. I'd prefer to have at least one glass included!
The initial check in was very unprofessional - three reception booths, so three queues formed. As we were approaching our window, we were told by the lady there that she wanted us for form a single queue, so we did (pushing us to the back). She then proceeded to serve the next person behind us. I'm guessing this was just because I look quite young, so I still get bad service from companies that want a more 'mature' client base, but I did push back in front to complain. She did apologise saying that they usually have ropes out (not sure why they weren't out this day?) and proceeded to check us in. It did sour the initial impression
The train is comfy it does have nice views once you get out of Napa (although you will look over the road for one journey of your trip). The tour was very good, but that wasn't really any part of the wine trains control so i won't include that here.
If you want a great meal, go elsewhere. If you're looking for a convenient and unique way to get to a vineyard, this is very handy as the station is walkable from most of central Napa.
