Throughout the last 10 years, I have been to this place about 4 times, but this is the first time writing a review. I just can't contain my frustration any longer.
Went here for my birthday last night. My husband called ahead to make a reservation, but they do not take them, so he showed up about 1.5 hrs early so that our party of 13 could be seated when we all arrived. We told everyone to come at 6:30, but of course not everyone shows up right on the dot. By 6:25, they were pressuring us to produce all of our party, or else they would have to give our table away. At 6:30, we had more than 50% of our party ready to sit and start ordering drinks and food, but they refused to seat us.This was so stressful! By 6:35, we were frantically trying to text/call our friends to let them know we really needed them to show up. In my opinion, this is very bad business. Most good restaurants will at least make a reservation for parties above 6 or 7 people. Even if the food had been good (which it is NOT), I would not go back to this place based on the fact that they have a crappy policy for large parties. One waiter seemed eager to get us to our table, but the super tall, ultra beautiful hostess refused citing that the owners do not allow seating unless everyone is there.
Ok, let's get to the food- The food is very bad here. The sauces are prepared and then blended to a smoothie like texture then poured over the dish. The sauce is what you are really paying for, but they are so plain. Even the waiter had a difficult time recommending something to me. He even brought sauces for us to try because they get so many complaints after the dishes are ordered.
Enchiladas- over priced- you will pay $14 for plain unseasoned, dry cut up chicken breast, wrapped in a plain, un-warmed tortilla, with a very plain (guajillo) or too sweet tasting sauce (mole) poured over the top and placed under a hot lamp until it is brought to your table.
Pollo Negro- (see pic) Again, dry chicken breast, with sauce poured over the top. It tasted like maybe it has mushrooms in it? Way too salty. Imagine plain chicken breast with a salty smoothie-like mushroomy sauce poured over spinach that isn't wilted, just spinach straight from the package. It seems like all dishes come with black beans and rice. It looks fancy, but you are paying way too much for the way that this food is prepared.
Ceviche- This was not fresh as the menu claims. This was frozen, thawed fish. The absolute worst ceviche I have ever eaten.
Queso Frito Con Salsa Verde- This was ridiculous for $9! 5 plain pieces of cojita chuncks bathing in warm salsa verde. Ewww. It tastes like canned or from a jar salsa verde.
Guacamole- This was probably the best thing I had there, besides my margarita, but it is suspiciously smooth like the one you would buy at the store.
The Diosa... Margarita was pretty good. Just a tad sweet, but good.
We had 13 people at our table and almost everyone seemed a little put off by the food. Even my 8 yr old daughter told me the place didn't have good food.
I'm telling you, they make that sauce in advance, then put pieces of plain unseasoned meat in it to cook, then pour it on your plate. It's such low quality, I felt like such a fool thinking that they might have actually improved from my last visit a couple years ago.
Do not eat here, unless you are just looking for drinks and ambience. Not worth going for the food.
