“Nice hotel but kitchen help almost came to blows during breakfast?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2011

We were travelling home from Phoenix to Tacoma, WA. We had hoped to make it to Medford, OR this night but due to traffic issues in CA were delayed and stopped at this hotel. It is a very nice property. We had a nice room with a view of Mt. Shasta. The room was large and bed was very comfortable. We were quoted a price of $129 plus tax but when we said no, the clerk came up with a "manager's special" of $109. We made our way to the restaurant/lounge for dinner. The menu was ok but kind of pricey. The bartender was very friendly. We slept well and prepared to leave in the morning after enjoying their hot buffet breakfast, which is included with the room. I noted there was no bacon or potatoes left. The hostess went to the kitchen to have the cook bring some and out comes this man practically throwing the pans on to the hot plates. He then went storming in to the kitchen and we could hear (and see) a very heated argument going on between what appeared to be 2 cooks. I thought they were going to come to blows. I went to the desk to complain but there was no manager on duty. The clerk went in to the kitchen to tell them to quiet down and close the door. They closed the door but continued to argue loudly. It made us very uncomfortable. We hurredly finished our meal and left. As for the bacon - what was brought out was cold slices of ham. I might stay there again but will have to think about it because there should always be a manage on duty and perhaps this situation wouldn't have elevated to such a level.

Room Tip: Ask for the manager's special rate

, General Manager at BEST WESTERN PLUS Tree House, responded to this review, April 6, 2011
"First off, I want to apologize for the behavior of the two cooks. Their behavior was unacceptable and not the standard we set for our employees. A friendly and helpful staff is extremely important to us and what we strive for. I am sorry that you were subjected to this behavior along with all the other guests in the restaurant at that time. I want to thank you for immediately bringing this to our attention. We should have done a better job at handling the problem at that time. I have corrected the issue with the 2 cooks. I am also re-training our front desk staff to take charge when situations arise. The front desk staff are the managers on duty when myself or either of my assistants are not available. I would like to invite you back when you are in the area again. Please give me a call if you would like to discuss this further.

We needed a last minute spot for a 2 day ski trip to Mt Shasta. This hotel fit the need just right. It was a great value with the included breakfast. The location is very convenient to the freeway and local restaurants. The indoor pool and hot tub were a quick treat after a day on then slopes. Even better was the friendly bar with windows looking over the pool area. We will definitely return.

We really enjoyed it here. Our room was clean and comfortable. Good bar and service. Hot breakfast included. Beautiful surroundings. Wish we had time to stay longer. Dog friendly.

Family and I stayed for two days in early January. The staff are just great, the rooms spacy and comfortable, and the breakfast included in the room rates is very good. Would recommend this as a comfortable stop on the I-5 in beautiful Mt. Shasta. The in-room WiFi would not connect but I could use the internet in the lobby.

I'm sure it would depend on what your needs and expectations are but this worked for us. We were driving down from Portland at night in the snow. This property is right off the freeway. We called for room availability while on the road. Since there were rooms available we didn't make reservations. We pulled into the covered check-in area and it felt like a woodsy lodge in a winter wonderland. The reception area felt warm and inviting with log furniture and a fireplace. The gals at check-in were very accommodating. Our requirements were two rooms with two queen beds with connecting rooms. We didn't have anything reserved and there was nothing in that configuration available except the gigantic corner suite with connecting king bedroom. After some figuring, the front desk gal gave us a super "couldn't turn it down price" and we got the most awesome room with a balcony. AND...they are pet friendly! It was about 8:30 before we were checked-in and ready for dinner. They kept the restaurant open just for us. Breakfast was included in the morning. It consisted of scrambled eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, cold cereal, fruit, etc. There is also a really nice indoor swimming pool. If you expect a rustic cozy casual place then you'll be satisfied. It's not the Four Seasons.

Outstanding hotel with swimming pool and spa. Great suite, beds and smell of Pine Trees!

Mallory did a great job of checking us in. We discovered that our Best Western $100.00 card was still good so stayed overnight for only $54!! Wow! Great breakfast.
