We've visited the Distillery twice, both for lunch, most recently on the Saturday before Father's Day. Although we didn't have a reservation, my party of 11 including 5 children were seated right away in the bar area. We had views of the beach as well as the FIFA World Cup game on TV, haha.
I was pleased to find a ginger beer on the drink menu, which is not something that's typically offered at most restaurants. The chowder was delicious and this time I had the fish tacos (fried with corn tortillas, you can also order grilled fish and flour tortillas). The first time, I had the crab cakes appetizers which were tasty. I thought the tacos were a bit bland, but the fish was fresh. My friends ordered the panko-crusted salmon special, Distillery Steamers and slider trio. One of the sliders was a just-seared salmon "burger" and it was quite yummy. The panko-crusted salmon entree was a good portion and my friend inhaled it. The steamers sauce was just a bit spicy and excellent with the garlic pesto toast.
There are several eating rooms at this restaurant because it used to be a house. It seems all of them have good views, although I've only been in two of the rooms. The downstairs room is much more casual and opens on to the patio which has firepits, benches and a few tables. Food is served outside although not the full menu. The service was friendly, albeit busy.
The restaurant seems to be kid- and dog-friendly which is a plus in my book. I'm giving it 4 stars rather than 5 because I thought the entree menu was overpriced, especially for lunch.
Tip: if you don't have reservations for lunch, try to be there by noon when they open. There was a line when we arrived at 11:45am.
