“Eat what the staff eats... if it's available”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2014

This place has some average things on the menu, but the real magic can be found on the specials board if you are lucky. We saw a foreign sounding name we weren't familiar with and asked about it. It was an indonesian type dish with shards of beef mixed into a noodle dish packed with a nice punch. The staff we spoke to said it was something the chef often makes for the staff, and on the days the staff doesn't gobble it all up themselves, it's available on the specials board. It was sort of like a beef stroganoff with a pan asian spin. Really really good.

“Great food and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2014

My family ate here while we were in town for the week and the food was great. The service was excellent and helpful in trying to figure out what the kids will like to eat. I really enjoyed the roast beef sandwich. We sat outside on the deck overlooking the bay. Very homey feel.

“Unimpressive food, great views”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 24, 2013

I had the hand carved roast beef sandwich, the beef was fine and a generous serving but that was it. The bread was soft and a bit soggy, the au jus nothing special and there was nothing else. Perhaps mustard was available but our outdoor table only had ketchup. The view out onto Morro Bay is excellent and the sounds of the sea lions (or harbour seals) were entertaining. Four of us ate on this occasion and none were very impressed.

“Best French Dip !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2013

If you are in Morro Bay and hungry, the Hofbrau has the best deli type sandwiches you will find. I love the French dip - carved as you watch. Even the "mini" is big and filling. Highly recommend.

“Tasty, lowkey dining on the water”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

Hofbrau, located right on the Embarcadero, offers a wide array of hand-carved sandwiches in a very casual atmosphere. When we first walked in, I thought the prices were high for "sandwiches," but the portions are huge.

Four of us each had something different: I had the Reuben sandwich, which was very good but way too much for me. My boyfriend had the pastrami sandwich (next time, we'll share). Our friends had the roast beef sandwich and fish & chips -- they were very happy with their meals. Onion rings and fries were also good. They also offer a decent kid's menu for under $6.

We were there on a Friday night, and the place was jumping. For a quick bite, the Hofbrau does the trick. The staff was friendly and got our orders out to us quickly. We'll be back.
