We stayed here on our last night out on a 23 day trip through western states. Morro Bay is a laid back beach community, less developed than some beach communities, very refreshing. Loved the soft water (is it a community feature or only in the hotel?). The hotel was a good value for the price. The hydrotherapy pool is more like a Roman tub, plenty of room for multiple guests. The fitness equipment seemed newer, good quality. The artwork hanging throughout turns the facility from ordinary to interesting. Our room had a fireplace (nice during a winter stay) and balcony looking towards the ocean with partial view of the rock. The room furniture was tastefully in keeping with the artwork. The bath and bed linens were standard hotel quality, the bed itself was very comfortable, as advertised.
It seemed the staff paid attention to cleanliness generally, although the baseboards in some areas could use some vacuuming. (As a landlord, I notice these things more than most people might.) The continental breakfast was the usual toast, two cereals, packaged oatmeal, juice, good teas. We had a great dinner at Windows on the Water. Overall, I was satisfied with our night's stay there and would return again.

“Pleasantly surprised”

I was pleasantly surprised about this Hotel, I had been by it many times in my travels to the bay, and had always wanted to stay there. They had many good amenities as well as being very very accomadating to the customer.Even tho this is a older hotel it has been kept up very nicely, with a homey atmosphier, its very close to shops as well as the embarcadero in morro bay. How ever i did find one small draw back there is no elevators, so beware , its not for the wheel chair bound for up stairs, but is accomadating in the lower level, with easy access to the lobby as well as the rooms. Over all i had a very pleasant stay and would book this hotel again, AND the price wasnt bad either....

This is a nice and quiet motel, we got a good rate for a mid-week day and we staye here for one night only. The room is nice, clean and quiet. Though there is no a/c in the room but the roof fan which is already good enough for an earl y summer day. Make sure to double check the fan if it is moving anti-clockwisely. There is a device in the center of the fan which you can switch for the moving direction. Our fan wasn't cool enough until we found the trick. We will definately stay in this motel again.

On a combined trip to return my son to school at CalPoly and few days off to travel to SoCal, my 2 teenage daughters and I stayed here two nights. Although there was nothing bad about our stay, I felt that I needed to write a review because the previous posts had built up an expectation that reality didn't meet. The staff was friendly, and the beds were comfortable. The room was indeed clean, I appreciated interior halls, and from the outside the place looks very nice.

However, I think if this hotel was not in the lovely beach town of Morro Bay, it's ratings wouldn't be as high. From my experience, Morro Bay is lacking in medium-range properties; there are really yucky places and there are really expensive places - and nothing was built recently. Because of the competition line up, this place stands out. Unfortunately, to do so, it only needs to be clean, moderately furnished, and reasonably priced (we got a weekday special - $79 1st night, second was half-priced).

The good news is that, as the many reviews indicate, they seem to be consistently providing above average accomodations for their guests.

A couple of last comments:
-- The continental breakfast was very standard - danishes, some apples, cereal, oatmeal, coffee.
-- Wine and cheese hour was a nice touch, although they were out of the sparkling apple cider when we stopped by.
-- Cookies available at other hours are the shortbread kind that come in a huge tin.
-- The artwork scattered throughout the property is kind of funny. They're reprints of various famous pieces, but they seem entirely out of place with the decor. It's like someone had a "clever" marketing idea but failed to really implement it fully. So you get rooms decorated in "Great Aunt Hilda's parlor" style with a random piece of modern art, for example. Interesting, but quirky.
-- I thought we'd have a better view, but our room (without a fireplace or jacuzzi tub) faced north with a view of apartments and the highway beyond it. Could hear the cars, but it wasn't loud or annoying.
-- It was a pretty easy walk to the Embarcadero, but isn't exactly "close."

Do I recommend staying here? If you want a reasonable rate, absolutely. If you want romantic luxury, unless you get their penthouse suite, you probably should spring for one of the nicer places in town.

After reading bad reviews for the original hotel I booked, I'm so happy we switched and at a better price!!!
The front desk was very pleasant and helpful. The rooms were nice and very clean. My teenagers enjoyed the spa and weight room. The wine and cheese was very nice after a long day out. As was continental breakfast.
Would definitely stay here again.
