We used a groupon for this visit. When you arrive at the motel the first impression is that it is a little dated. The staff were very nice and appeared to want to satisfy the customer. When we got to our room, which was facing the street, I sat on the love seat and noticed that there were cheese crackers and a half eaten fig bar under the bed. I brought this to the attention of the staff and they quickly remedied the problem. There is no air conditioner, it is the beach community after all. But, because of the lack of AC we had to sleep with the window open to the sometimes busy street which made it noisy. The bed and pillows were great for when it was quiet enough to sleep.
We went to the Jacuzzi which is large and can accommodate a large group, and it seems some locals who were inside when we got there. How do I know this? Well when you ask them where they are from and they say Morro Bay, and you see their street clothes in the work out room its a clue.

So overall it was an ok stay, would we stay there again, probably not.

I loved the Hotel receptionist, David. Made you feel welcomed and shared behind the scene information. Close to great fish resteraunts and Kayaking. Wonderful Roman Spa in the basement. Don't miss 5:30 wine, cheese, and cracker happy hour. Love the art work found throughout the hotel, especially in the room. Kind of a European atmosphere. If your coming to Morro Bay, it's a must stay!

Room Tip: Most rooms have a balcony and view of the town.

Green Features: Reception goes out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Can't say enough!

Stayed here for our anniversary. Stayed in the Penthouse Suite for 3 nights in August. This is a boutique hotel. For our purposes this was a great room. Very large. nice bathroom with large separate spa. It's not a new hotel and along with some quaint "old school" touches, there was a noticeable aroma of age - but not bad or overwhelming. The room had a great view and a private patio area ideal for private sunbathing. (okay, it's not really private, there is an access door that is part of the emergency escape route, so inquizitive people taking the fire stairs could go up to check it out, but it's unlikely) Morning breakfast is quite adequate. Looked at the pool/spa - didn't use it, but seemed nice. Close walk to Morro Bay fishing and restaurants. 5 minute drive to grocery store / strip mall - but not particularly urban. Staff was friendly but not particularly attentive or service oriented. That was fine with us, we can take care of ourselves and we were looking for a little privacy. Only negative was we couldn't get the fireplace going - it had a funky control knob / timer that we couldn't seem to operate. they offered to come up but we declined. For our anniversary this was the right room and well worth the splurge.

Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay. We've let maintenance know about the fireplace issue. Next time bring your swimsuits so you can enjoy the spa, it's wonderful after a day of walking around our little seaside town.

Masterpiece hotel is a beautiful hotel located just a short distance from Morro Bay. We have stayed 3 times now and will continue to stay there in the future. The hotel is quiet and beautifully decorated. We love the fact that now they even have liquid shampoo, conditioner and body soap dispensers in the showers in case you forget/run out of these items. They have a nice breakfast waiting for everyone in the morning. You won't be disappointed!

Morro Bay is generally not a place where I would expect to stay at a large hotel or resort, so what I look for here is a quiet, clean, cozy, personal experience with some unique character to make it memorable. Masterpiece Hotel fit the bill! It's easy to find, conveniently located off of Highway 1.

The front desk is pretty much a one-person operation, and everyone we met on staff was very friendly and personable. The room was very clean, but somewhat sparsely furnished; it was surprisingly a good size but then there's more space to fill and could have used another piece or two of furniture. The bed & pillows were very comfy, and the free breakfast was standard selfie waffles, pastries, boiled eggs, oatmeal packets, juice, etc.

It seems everyone vies for a view of Morro Rock; it can be seen from just about everywhere else in town so I don't really need to stare at it from my hotel room where I don't spend the day looking out the window anyway. So I don't know if any of the rooms had a view (ours on the first floor didn't) but that was OK with me. The whole place is decorated with replicas of famous paintings, and in the room is a list of all the names of the paintings and where they are located. The unique Roman themed spa with its floor-to-ceiling white columns and decorative tile is a must-see, even if you don't plan on getting wet.

We were always on the go, so didn't get to experience the free wine, cheese & crackers in the evening but I thought that was a nice touch nonetheless. Absolutely no problems with check-in, check-out, room keys, or housekeeping service. The only thing close to a downside would be the small free parking lot in the front which fills up, so one evening we had to park clear around the back of the building where there are a few covered spaces (but we couldn't find access to the building from there so we had to walk on the sidewalk to the end of the block then backtrack through the front parking lot to get into the building). and another night parked on the side street. Since a visit to Morro Bay always includes walking, this was also not critical for us but may be for other guests. Overall, a relaxing, unhurried atmosphere, you get a content feeling staying here.

Spent two nights here in March 2015. Friendly, helpful staff and a good location. Room was big and comfortable with everything you would expect. Complimentary cheese and wine every night was a nice touch.
Morro Bay was lovely with a beautiful beach out on the rock and the local wines were an unexpected pleasure. San Luis Obispo is a short drive away and well worth a visit.
