“What a motel should be”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2011

The Sundown Inn doesn't look like much, but it's everything that a motel should be -- clean, quiet, with little touches that, though a little too cute at times, show how much the owners care. And the owners are wonderful. Throw in a good location (walking distance to the waterfront) and affordable rates and you have a winner. Rooms are set back a ways from Main Street (which, despite its name, is not very busy at night). Queen bed is the largest they have, and the mattress is somewhat soft, but not really an issue. Very modern flatscreen TV (unusual in this class of motel). Owner said she would give me a future discount "as a repeat customer." Nice touch: memory without a computer. Would definitely stay there again.

After many hours spent online, trawling through all of the options we spotted the reviews for the Sundown Inn and made our choice. It was fantastic. Very good value and conveniently located for a wide selection of places to eat and drink. The staff/owners were really nice and made us feel at home. My only negative point was the pillows - not very comfortable. That said, I'd definitely stay there again, which I guess says it all.

The other reviewers were right about this place. It's clean as a whistle. The room even came with a refrigerator (can't remember a microwave but I think it had that too). It's just a basic motel but it is furnished very nicely. You can get a bit of a break on the rate if you ask for their internet rate but the rates are really good anyway. Very convenient. We walked to everthing in Morro Bay. Morro Bay is a fun place because even though it's focused on tourism it doesn't seem to be terribly crowded. The lodging and eating prices are very reasonable and it's right on the water. And yes you can see Morro Rock from your room at Sundown Inn (it's not directly on the water but just up the hill a couple of blocks).

We just stayed here 2 nights. This is an older 50"s style motel. For the price, it is a great place to stay. Rooms are spotlessly clean, location is walking distance to everything, easy parking etc. If you are in Morro Bay you want to stay downtown so you can walk to the seafront restaurants shops etc. See a movie at night--the Morro Bay theater is about 4 blocks walk away--old fashioned 7 dollars single screen.

No breakfast but there are chocolates at the reception desk.

I accidentally left my jacket at the hotel and the proprietor of the hotel mailed it back the next day to me--they even nicely folded the jacket before mailing.

So, for more money there are nicer places to stay with bigger rooms etc--but this is an extremely clean, well located perfectly fine place to stay, and I would recommend it. I would certainly stay here again.

Great location - walk to morning cofee shops and the Embarcadero for shopping, dining, and Saturday Farmer's Market downtown. Rooms are exceptionally clean and tidy, and reasonably priced for the local market. Flat screen TV, small mwave, small refridge, and free wifi are convenient. Nice beds & very quiet. Wife likes the soft sheets. The manager is very nice & accomadating. We always recommend the Sundown to friends who are visiting Morro Bay.

I booked because of the good reviews, but can't confirm what've been said in all other reviews. If you like artificial floral, you'll like it, the webcobs were not artificial, that's for sure. Room was incredible tiny with two chairs but almost no space to walk between the beds and the chairs, (mini-)fridge was in the space reserved for the carpet, microwave was so tiny I can't imagine what you can do with it apart from warming up a glass of melk... Furniture outdated, I could overhear everything from my neighbours. Morro Bay is not the cheapest place to stay, but it was quite overpriced without offering a breakfast or any other amenities. Wi-Fi never worked, that was the first time on our trip, I couldn't connect at all. Just around the corner (Two dolphins) they offer more quality (with breakfast and spa) for one third less. Owner was fair enough to pay back the second night I've already paid but would not stay, though.

Room Tip: Two dolphins just around the corner had swimming pool and breakfast

This is my first time reviewing anything online but I feel this place and the poeple that operate it deserve all the positive things that have been written and that I am about to write.

My husband and I stayed here for a night while passing through because of the value and the positive reviews. We arrived to a very clean and comfortable room and slept soundly, ready for the rest of our drive.

I (much to my husbands dismay) have a tendency to lose things I care about.... And this time it was a pair of especially fun glasses I had recently purchased... And am blind without. I called the evening after we checked out (tonight, in fact) and the man who answered the phone said they found them and would ship them on Monday. Any large chain would simply 'not have found them' or not taken the time to send them to my home. I so appreciate everything they have done!!

Also, if you like Thai food, Jasmine Thai near Bank of America us delish.
