“Another Great Stay.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013 via mobile

We stayed in La Serena Inn this time last year for the Morro Bay Harbour Festival and had a great stay so we decided to return this year, once again we had a great stay, the rooms are a good size, very clean and tidy, with everything in them you need, ok its a bit dated but who cares if its clean, tidy and comfy that I can confirm it is, the breakfast is a standard continental breakfast that consists of pastries, waffles, cereal, eggs etc, so no complaints there. The staff are the best asset to this hotel, always friendly and happy to help.

Pros: friendly staff, great location, value for money

Cons: room a bit dated, no sea view (although promised)

We stayed for one night at the hotel in Sept 2013 and paid ~£55 for a double room with a bay view.

Overall impression is that its a good hotel which offers value for money. Our room was really clean, was big with a large comfortable bed. I've read in other reviews that the beds were higher off the ground than normal and ours was too - a bit strange but wasnt a problem and wasnt significantly higher than usual. If anything, the room decor looked a little dated in style (but was clean and didnt appear worn at all) but this wasnt a problem. We also payed £5 more when we booked for a bay view room but we couldnt see much through our window!! Nevermind - the hotel and room were still value for money, clean and quiet.

Location of the hotel was great - we loved morro bay itself, such a quiet (except for the sealions) and beautiful place! Hotel was 2mins walk to the front of shops/restaurants and was really close to and easy to find from route 1. Hotel also had ample parking off-street for free.

Otherwise breakfast was ok - standard continental breakfast with reasonable choice. Also all the staff we met were really friendly and made us feel welcome! We also loved all the info about the local wildlife in the room which would be really useful if you were to take advantage of some of the walks/nature areas around morro bay.

Overall a good stay in a hotel that offered value for money!

Room Tip: If you book bay view, make sure you get one!

We stayed in Morro Bay as part of a road trip on the Pacific Highway. La Serenna Inn was recommended in our guide book and we though we would give it a go. Didn't book in advance but called on the day. Our room was really nice and we got a reduction in the price as it was a misty day so the room had no view. Really nice and comfortable room with a small balcony which was just big enough to sit down and enjoy a beer. No view because of the mist but we could hear the sea lions bark in our room which was a novelty having never heard them before. Only a short walk to the habour front which has a good selection of restaurants not to mention an excellent opportunity to see sea lions up close. Never saw the Morro Rock as it as too misty?

We stayed three nights in September, one night in a room with a partial South Bay view and two nights in a suite with a South Bay and Morro Rock view. The king bed room was adequate with a very small balcony that could just barely accommodate two chairs. It also featured refrigerator, microwave and flat screen TV. The suite was very nice and comfortable with a king bed, nice couch, fireplace, two extra chairs, both tub and stall shower, microwave, refrigerator, flat screen TV and nice roomy balcony with table and four chairs. The suite is well worth the extra cost. The whole facility is beginning to show its age with spots in the hall carpeting as well as in the rooms. Our suite wall paper had several small tears. The room heater/airconditioners can be a little noisy. The continental breakfast was just so-so with only two kinds of cereal, a waffle maker, apples & oranges (no bananas), coffee, hardboiled eggs and orange juice. The staff were very friendly, courteous and accommodating. Parking is plentiful, easy and free. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the waterfront and its many shops and restaurants (but the walk back up the hill may be trying for some). All in all La Serena Inn is a nice place, but can stand a little updating.

Room Tip: The third floor is preferred by most. The breakfast room is also on the third floor.

This was the first time we stayed at La Serena. We arrived at noon but our room wasn't ready so we went down to the waterfront for a bite to eat; they called around 2pm to say we could check in. The Inn location was 1 block off the water, away from traffic but a quick walk to all the shops and restaurants. What a surprise when we opened our door, the room was huge. It had a very large bathroom/dressing area with long counter, mirror, 2 sinks, hair dryer and 2 open front closets with a shelf and hanging rod in each. The bath area had toilet, tub, and separate shower, also a full set of shelves for toiletries, etc..
We had a king bed room with a gas fireplace (which we used every evening-so nice) and an outside deck with table and 2 chairs. There was also a refrigerator, microwave and coffee maker. The breakfast room was nice, lots of tables and chairs and even an outdoor protected deck. Continental breakfast was the usual fare; cereal, assorted pastries, waffle maker, fresh fruit, orange juice, coffee, tea. restaurants. The hotel was clean, the staff friendly and helpful, location awesome. The price ($118 a night) was unbelievably low for what we had; we stayed 4 nights and will definitely return.

Room Tip: Corner suite was large and sunny

We stayed a Saturday night in August. Now that would be the peak night of the week in the peak month of the year. Without reservations, we stopped in at four hotels and all quoted around the same price one hundred seventy. We chose La Serena. The staff were very nice and the room was large and well appointed.

The window air conditioning unit was very noisy and grumbly.

We were disappointed in the breakfast, which consisted of Cheerios in one of those big plastic containers, watery OJ, and pastries that seemed mass-produced. I think that with an upgrade in the quality of the breakfast, then this property could elevate itself to the next level.
