“Excelent Value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 5, 2008

This was a last minute on-line booking. The hotel was great, a large, clean well presented room with a view of the bay.
Only a few minutes walk to the sea front where there are lots of restaurants.
Breakfast was limited but adequate.
Reception staff friendly and helpful.

4 ladies traveling from LA to Sonoma Wine country stopped here to spend the first night on the Pacific Coast Highway 1. Love the town of Morro Bay. The hotel was neat and clean with a balcony off of the room. Good price and fit our needs. The parking was close and covered. Walked the 2 blocks to the ocean and enjoyed shopping and eating at the many places along the beach. It is rocky there so do not expect to go into the water for a swim. Overall a good value and a safe enjoyable experience.

  • Liked — Nice room with balcony and walking distance to some great shops and resturants
  • Disliked — Would have liked a hot tub to relax in at night.

We were a family of 4 (2 school-aged children) and found this to be a great place for us to stay for 3 nights. My first impression was the fresh smell of the place and the feeling that everything was clean and well kept throughout. Room size (2 queens) was adequate for our needs. Beds comfortable. The hot drinks available in the lobby were a nice touch. The kids really got a kick out of the 4-7 pm sparkling cider and cookies served in the lobby. Free breakfast was just adequate but the price was right. It really helped us get a good start to the day. The location was nice - on a quiet street just a couple of blocks from the bay. We had a nice partial view of Morro Rock from our room on the 3rd floor. It was a quiet place. We did not hear any noise from other guests through the walls or in the hallways.

The only drawbacks were minor. The towels were rough and seemed rather worn. The bathroom fixtures were cheap and in need of replacement (though everything worked alright). They only provided 2 little bars of soap to be used for the tub plus 2 sinks - so one spot was always without. It was a minor inconvenience but seemed a little cheap.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and for the price, would recommend it.

  • Liked — Clean, affordable and good location

Three of us (two rooms) enjoyed a nice stay at La Serena. You will not find a better deal on California's Central Coast in terms of cleanliness, location, helpful staff and cost. The rates are particularly attractive if you have AAA or AARP. The 2nd floor rooms we had (209 and 210) were very spacious and incl. refrigerator, microwave plus small coffee maker. The breakfast was nothing to write home about, but for the price, one dare not complain. The biggest plus for me…and everyone cringes when I mention it … the rooms smelled good. None of that sickening, stale, bubble-gum odor, or whatever it is so many places infuse into their carpets and drapes. There was basically no smell, which I found to be quite refreshing. If you are visiting the surrounding area (San Simeon, Cambria, San Luis Obispo) this is a very good early-April deal. There was a nice restaurant two blocks away, too…Dorns. And you are within walking distance of Morro Bay's ocean front area. We travel a lot, all over the world, and we have high standards, but not unrealistic expectations. You can certainly find more upscale places in SLO, but you will pay three times as much..

Stayed 3 nights here, 3 women, 1 room but it was roomy and had a great view! We were close to the harbor, the restaurants and a view of the rock !! Maid service ok.. we had spilled some dried nuts on the carpet and they were still there when we left which indicated they never vacummed... hm... Had clean towels, extra pillows and blankets but the obvious was never picked up.
We would stay again, room comfortable, and there was a room for breakfast and places to sit and relax both inside and our own balcony!

Our one night stay was exceedingly comfortable. We felt very welcomed and the staff was eager to please. Rooms were well equiped and very clean. Everything worked! We will stay here again.

This is not the ritz carlton. This is a very quiet and peaceful little place nestled 2 blocks from the beach. The elavator is a little creepy but the room was very warm and inviting. Very clean.
The comp breakfast is very basic but we were not expecting 5 star cuisine either. Awesome area. Take a walk down to the strip where the restaurants and shops are and you can see the otters and sea lions playing in the bay.
We stayed in 6 different places throughout the state in 7 days and serena was by far the best value of all. we were in an upgraded room with balcony and bay view for $70.00.
Wish we could have spent more time there.
If you want room service,a business center and valet parking go spend $200+ a night somewhere else
